The Strategy, Support & Integrated Initiatives (SSII) division provides strategic and integrated support for PSES divisional services and ministerial priority initiatives. The Strategic Policy and Planning branch provides rigorous, high-quality data, research, and evaluation services to support evidence-based decision making within the public safety system. The work of the branch significantly contributes to the Government of Alberta’s commitment to public accountability and transparency.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University graduation in a related field
  • 4 years related policy experience.
    Equivalencies considered based on one-year experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Policy, as the Senior policy analyst, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the development and implementation of multiple policy initiatives that will impact the long-term and future direction of public safety and the administration of justice in Alberta. You will provide project management expertise to coordinate, monitor and report progress against project implementation plans involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Working collaboratively with internal PSES partners, other GOA partners, and stakeholder groups, you will plan, oversee, analyze, and coordinate the implementation of substantial high level priority policies and projects. Part of this exciting role involves conducting critical analysis of relevant information to provide strategic advice and present policy options on a number of major initiatives that support the Department’s strategic direction.
Your expertise is critical in supporting the development of forward-looking, strategic policy, system planning and legislation impacting the justice system, including high-profile ministry priorities.

Other responsibilities of this position include:

  • Lead and coordinate small project teams to identify research and develop policy proposals and actions.
  • Lead the development of literature reviews, issue papers, options documents, environmental scans, jurisdictional scans and other reports.
  • Analyze implications of options, outcomes and the impact on Albertans and consider the views of other internal and external stakeholders in terms of opportunities, risks, costs and benefits.
  • Draft and prepare a range of materials including letters, briefing notes, reports, presentations, visuals, Cabinet decision-making documents, for recommendation for senior officials and executive team.
  • Develop coherent, logically presented materials in a timely manner, often under short timelines and with competing priorities.
