Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do Help shape the future of health ethics and emerging technologies in Aotearoa New Zealand We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Advisor to join the Ethics team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of health policy, ethics, research, law, and emerging technologies, supporting the Advisory Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology (ACART) and the National Ethics Advisory Committee (NEAC). In this role, you will help shape some of the most challenging and thought-provoking policy issues facing the health sector, ensuring New Zealand's ethical and regulatory frameworks remain fit for purpose as science, technology, and healthcare continue to evolve. About the role As a Senior Advisor, you'll work at the forefront of health ethics, shaping policy on emerging issues such as AI, genetic technologies, innovative treatments, and health research. Supporting ACART and NEAC, you'll help ensure New Zealand's ethical frameworks keep pace with rapid scientific and technological change. Lead high-profile ethics policy work supporting the National Ethics Advisory Committee (NEAC) and Advisory Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology (ACART). Develop evidence-based policy advice, guidelines and regulatory frameworks on complex and emerging health ethics issues. Drive end-to-end policy projects, from problem definition and options analysis through to implementation, evaluation and risk management. Build and maintain trusted relationships with advisory committees, researchers, academics, health sector organisations and other key stakeholders. Provide leadership and mentoring, contributing to policy capability across the Ministry while championing equity and Te Tiriti obligations. Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you’ll bring Expertise in health ethics and public policy, with a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of New Zealand's health and disability research ethics framework and ethical review processes. Demonstrated policy experience, including navigating government processes and delivering high-quality policy advice. Exceptional communication and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, practical recommendations. Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with experience influencing and collaborating across diverse groups.
