  • VPS Grade 5: $109,730 - $132,764 plus superannuation

ABOUT US:

Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of our justice system, as well as direct service provision through a range of programs including the Victims of Crime Helpline, Victims Register and the Victims Assistance Program.
The Policy and Strategy Unit in VSSR leads the development and implementation of victims policy within DJCS and across government, including Victoria’s participation in the National Redress Scheme and implements major system reforms including supporting the delivery of the new Financial Assistance Scheme for victims of crime and the development of an Aboriginal Victims of Crime Strategy.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Senior Policy Officer will work cooperatively as a member of the policy team, and will contribute to the effective operation of the VSSR and wider victim support system by:

  • adhering to the organisational vision, policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • adopting behaviours which support productive teamwork.
  • providing and accessing effective policy advice support to staff.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a creative policy thinker who enjoys working in a dynamic and high performing environment.
  • Have knowledge of, and experience in the development of policy and government processes, and an understanding of the criminal justice system is desirable.
  • An understanding of victims’ issues, in particular family violence, sexual assault, financial assistance for victims and indictable crime is desirable
