JOB SUMMARY

As the Senior Design Engineer, you will play an important role in product development in Trane Technologies’ HVAC systems and accelerating electrification of the portfolio. This position will involve working with multi-disciplinary Subject Matter Experts in addition to interacting with global teams to leverage capabilities in areas of product development and application. This position will directly support key enterprise initiatives of electrification and decarbonization to meet sustainability goals of 1GT CO2e reductions by 2030. This role will Influence technical direction through external partners, relationships, and by demonstrating applicability of new tech in the product portfolio

Responsibilities
  1. Lead hardware development efforts for Power Electronic components for HVAC applications such as DC-DC, AC-DC and DC-AC.
  2. Lead efforts in transient and dynamic modelling of power electronics in HVAC electrical architectures studying interaction with power source and load systems.
  3. Lead the design validation and productization from early prototyping through manufacturing hand-off.
  4. Lead efforts to optimize hardware designs for performance, cost, packaging, and thermal characteristics
  5. Govern and lead design reviews through processes such as FMEA, DFMEA, and Risk Analysis.
  6. Guide overall component choices for system design employing industry wide best practices.
  7. Work with cross functional teams in areas such as HW, CAD, Mechanical Design, Thermal Design, etc.
  8. Collaborate with other design architects and design teams to leverage common solutions across the businesses.
  9. Lead and author detailed requirements specifications at various levels of power conversion equipment.
  10. Perform design reviews and compliance to agency standards such as UL or IEC.
  11. Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers of solutions.
  12. Build and maintain relationships with key external partners, universities and National Labs.
  13. Identify opportunities for utilization of emerging PE technologies in HVAC applications.
  14. Develop project plans, prioritize tasks, and provide regular project updates.
  15. Author Lab test plans, conduct testing, analyze and interpret results
    and execute design updates based on the results.
