We are currently recruiting for a Senior Practice Reviewer (SPR) on a full-time, permanent basis to join the Global Assurance Team of ACCA's Regulation and Conduct department. This is a home-based role for applicants based in Cyprus. ACCA undertakes audit and AML monitoring of practising firms in Cyprus, on behalf of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC) under two separate agreements. The main role of a Cyprus based SPR entails undertaking audit and AML monitoring reviews to practising firms in Cyprus, either independently or as a part of team of SPRs, in accordance with the contractual arrangements with ICPAC. The SPR is also required to undertake internal quality reviews of working papers and reports prepared by other SPRs within the unit. This is a high-profile role which requires exercising of high-quality professional judgments and dealing with experienced qualified practitioners on day-to-day basis, including partners of Big 4 and other international network firms from time to time, and which also encompasses regulation and consultancy and interaction with senior members of the accountancy profession and government regulators. Training is provided on monitoring procedures and the requirements of ICPAC’s rules and regulations, including on application of its AML and Sanctions directives. The job Reporting to the Lead SPR, on a day-to-day basis, you’ll be involved in the following: Plan and perform audit and AML monitoring reviews to firms on behalf of ICPAC in accordance with the two contractual agreements between ACCA and ICPAC At the visits, carry out a technical review of the firms’ audit and AML systems and procedures and the relevant regulatory professional work undertaken by the firms and assess whether they are complying with the appropriate regulations, standards and codes by applying the unit’s established methodology and by exercising sound professional judgment Discuss the findings of the reviews with the principals of the firms and secure their acceptance of the deficiencies found; and advise the firms of the outcome of their reviews Provide advice and guidance to practitioners during reviews on how to rectify identified deficiencies Prepare detailed reports after each monitoring review Review responses and action plans Undertake internal quality reviews of working papers and reports prepared by other SPRs in the unit Assist in the development and updating of the unit’s procedures, quality controls and monitoring evaluation systems Provide technical and other support to the unit when requested Deliver presentations on audit and AML regulatory matters Be involved in project work as assigned by Management The person We’re looking for someone who: Knowledge: Has a recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACCA or equivalent) Has in-depth technical knowledge of International Standards on Auditing and IESBA ethical standards Has sound knowledge of IFRS Accounting Standards Has sound knowledge of Cyprus anti-money laundering legislation, ICPAC’s AML and Sanctions directives Is fluent in the Greek and English language Skills: Is able to communicate confidently and effectively with practitioners, and manage any challenging discussions while remaining calm, assertive and professional Is able to build strong working relationships with colleagues and external contacts including senior members of the profession in Cyprus Can make sound judgments and be able to make reasoned and appropriate decisions Has an organised, logical and methodical approach to work with excellent time management skills to deliver in accordance with key metrics Is self-motivated and able to work independently with the minimum of supervision Is able to clearly, concisely and accurately write all forms of written communication including monitoring review reports and letters Is computer literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications Has an interest in coaching and is able to deliver presentations on technical subjects to practitioners Experience: Has significant post-qualification experience at manager level or equivalent in an audit practice environment Has extensive practical experience of applying relevant standards Practical experience of compliance requirements of Cyprus AML legislation and ICPAC AML and Sanctions directives will be advantageous The role requires undertaking monitoring reviews to practising firms which are predominantly based in the main towns and cities of Cyprus and therefore will involve a significant amount of travel and occasionally spending not more than a couple of nights away from home. The role holder is therefore required to hold a clean driving license.
