JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is leading the government’s mission to make the UK a clean energy superpower - increasing energy security, protecting bill payers and tackling climate change.
The talented professionals in the Communications Directorate are shaping and telling this story, with clear and creative communications to reach our audiences with original content.

We’re looking for an expert communicator with proven skills in media relations to join our team. The successful candidate will be experienced in translating detailed information into engaging language, co-ordinating and delivering creative communications plans. Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create multi-channel media plans to promote the department’s mission, reflecting policy developments and the emerging news agenda.
  • Deliver creative and clear content that tells the real-world story on delivering clean power by 2030 and accelerating to net zero, working constructively with policy and communications colleagues in DESNZ and across government to gain expert opinion.
  • Provide considered communications advice to ministers, special advisers and senior officials on new, developing and existing policy.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and editing skills to deliver quality and timely press releases, rebuttals, and lines to take in response to developing stories.
  • Deliver strong evaluation of media strategies to inform future proactive and reactive media campaigns.
  • Line manage and oversee junior team members, taking responsibility for their continued development. Participate in the out-of-hours duty rota.
  • As a line manager, you will be responsible for working with your members of staff to define their objectives, as well as managing their development and performance.
