Position Summary The Senior Principal/Division Director of Electrical Engineering is responsible for the strategic leadership, technical oversight, and long-term success of NTH’s electrical engineering services to our various market clients. This role is foundational to building a high-performance, field-focused electrical engineering team serving municipal power boards, public and private utility clients, independent power producers, industrial manufacturing clients, and public works clients. The Director will focus on leadership, client relationships, quality oversight, safety, and intentional growth rather than primary day-to-day project execution. This role requires deep technical expertise in power electrical power delivery, strong market relationships, and a proven ability to build sustainable teams, systems, and processes. The Senior Principal/Division Director serves as the face of NTH with key clients, a technical authority within NTH, and a mentor and leader to the growing power engineering team. How You Will Make An Impact · Establish, implement, and maintain the long-term vision, structure, and operating strategy for the Municipal Power Division · Build a scalable, intentional team with technical capabilities in power delivery, clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and coverage · Actively manage workload, priorities, and growth to maintain quality, responsiveness, and sustainability · Develop standards, templates, workflows, and systems to support efficient and consistent execution · Collaborate closely with NTH leadership to align division goals with firm-wide objectives and culture · Build, maintain, and deepen long-term relationships with municipal utilities and infrastructure clients across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana · Serve as primary relationship owner for key, high-value clients, ensuring trust, responsiveness, and continuity · Identify and develop new client opportunities aligned with the division’s market focus and capabilities · Lead or support client meetings, proposal presentations, and strategic discussions · Promote repeat business and referral-based growth through consistent performance and client satisfaction · Serve as the division’s senior technical authority and subject matter expert in electrical engineering and power delivery · Provide technical oversight, guidance, and quality control on complex and high-risk projects · Review, seal, and ensure the quality of engineering deliverables and documentation · Support complex scoping, budgeting, and proposal development efforts · Provide high-level field support and troubleshooting for critical or complex issues · Act as backup Lead Electrical Engineer on large or complex projects as needed · Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers, designers, and specialists · Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to support professional growth · Develop strong working relationships and workflows with other NTH divisions · Identify and pursue cross-disciplinary project opportunities · Support inter-divisional project coordination and execution · Perform other tasks to support NTH’s growth, as necessary Requirements •Michigan Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the electrical engineering field focused on power delivery • Extensive experience serving municipal electric utilities and infrastructure clients • Strong understanding of the Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana municipal electric market and regulatory environment • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships • Proven technical expertise in power distribution, substations, studies, and field services • Experience overseeing complex engineering projects and QA/QC processes • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills • Experience building and leading an engineering group or division • Familiarity with power system studies, protective relaying, and commissioning • Experience collaborating across multi-disciplinary engineering teams • Relationship-driven, client-focused mindset • Intentional, proactive, and systems-oriented approach to growth • Comfortable balancing strategy, leadership, and hands-on problem-solving • Values accountability, responsiveness, and consistent quality • Committed to building a sustainable, high-performing team • Regional travel as required to serve clients and support projects Why You’ll Love Working At NTH · Rewards For Performance- We recognize great work with competitive pay with a generous compensation program to reward performance.
