About the job The State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) - Global Head of Data, Analytics & AI Services (GHDAAIS) is seeking to hire a Senior Principal Model Validation Specialist, Vice President at Hangzhou office. This role will play a key role in leading the validation of models developed for the Global Advisors business at State Street. The role will be a key player in the DAAIS for AI services supporting the COO’s organizational delivery of the technology platforms in a federated model to Global Advisors, State Street, and our clients. The role will function as the model validation specialist for AI related services working closely with the State Street affiliates, Global Technology Services (GTS) and other third-party vendors used within the SSGA ecosystem globally. The role and the team will provide AI architectural solution to the DAAIS delivery of technology platforms and services according to the GTS architectural standards and operate under a federated operating model to deliver against a target end state AI ecosystem blueprint. In addition, the role needs to adopt GTS AI related technology, risk, security, and data governance standards. This is a senior principal model validation specialist role for candidate who has very strong hands-on experience of assessing and verifying the accuracy, reliability, and performance of statistical and ML/GEN AI models used in finance, as well as strong team management skills and leadership. The candidate has 10+ years of experience in asset management. This is someone who also has demonstrable leadership in validating service-oriented model solution. In addition to model validation skills, the candidate has strong passion for building model development skills, such as machine learning, deep learning and Gen AI. The candidate has excellent technical and problem-solving skills, someone with creativity and self-motivation to deliver on mission critical projects with tight timelines and competing priorities. Responsibilities: Lead a small agile team to validate ML/AI models to meet our fast-changing business and client needs, collaborate with global teams to execute on global projects. Adopt various modern validation tools to assessing and verifying the accuracy, reliability, and performance of statistical and ML/GEN AI models. Produce qualitive and quantitative analysis, to support the model approval process and for senior management reporting Identify weaknesses, suggest improvements, and help mitigate potential risks associated with model usage Research, design and implement best practice methodologies and tools for validating models. Develop, train, and manage multiple model validation engineers, ensure their continuous growth and development, and foster a high-performance team culture. Skills and Qualifications: Master’s degree required (preferably in computer science, financial mathematics, and financial engineering), PhD preferred. 12+ years of experience in quantitative analytics including model development or independent model validation in a regulatory financial institution. 12+ years of modern, object-oriented or functional programming and design experience (Python, Java) and proficient in AI code generation tools like GitHub Co-pilot/Cursor. Proficient in public cloud development environment and could native products such as Azure ML, Azure AI Foundry, Snowflake, Databricks Mosaic, or AWS Bedrock/Sagemaker. Familiar with major financial instrument, reference data, market data, investment and risk management concept. Fluent with English and Mandarin; Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all stakeholder levels across multiple countries. Result driven, detail oriented, candid attitude. Any of the following is highly desirable: Prior model validation role in financial institution or data scientist experience. Prior risk and investment management experience in asset management industry. Structured and unstructured data management tools (Snowflake, Databricks, PGVector, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, etc.). Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) or equivalent.
