WHAT YOUR JOB WILL BE LIKE

We are seeking a Solutions Architect to join our Emergency Management team.

QUALIFICATIONS WE REQUIRE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus (5) years of experience, and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of some of the following Windows Desktop and Server System Administration:
  • End-User Application Support
  • System Setup
  • Active Directory Support
  • Account Management
  • File services
  • Network Configuration
  • Application Hosting
  • Computer and Networking Troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with firewall technology & management of private LANs/networks.
  • Familiarity with network protocols and network management technologies.
  • Skill utilizing software diagnostic tools and the ability to conduct appropriate troubleshooting processes and conduct appropriate upgrades.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS WE DESIRE

  • Previous experience in the service or installation of audio, video, and/or audiovisual, presentation systems.
  • Active DOE Q or DOD Top Secret clearance with reciprocity.
  • InfoComm CTS certification and any other industry related certifications or training (e.g., Crestron, BIAMP, Extron, QSC, Microsoft TEAMs, Shure).
  • Ability to research, assemble, and evaluate information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes and recommend sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Wide-ranging and in-depth experience with expert knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply information systems technologies.
  • Excellent knowledge of ongoing trends in the information systems field and the ability to understand and work with new and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of information systems engineering tools and techniques, development, application, and management.
  • Frequently contributes to the development of new methods and is considered an internal expert in the information systems engineering field.
  • Formal training, or equivalent experience, in information systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer science principles dealing with complexity, scalability, robustness, integrity, correctness, and protocols.
  • Ability to demonstrate total quality principles.
  • Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes.
  • Ability to translate technical terms to layperson’s terms and present them to audiences outside of the organization.
  • Ability to work closely with customers and suppliers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-directed and make sound decisions based on customer satisfaction.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Emergency management-related knowledge and/or experience.

NNSA REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDPEDS

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary architect for information systems solutions that require a breadth of knowledge about, and experience with, multiple information systems domains such as information assurance, hardware, software, database, networking, systems security, and telecommunication.
  • Meet with customers – internal or external to Sandia – to determine information systems requirements and uses professional concepts to incorporate these requirements into solutions that may be commercial-off-the-shelf, open source, or internally developed domain options.
  • May be responsible for project management in the realization of the information system solution.
  • May be responsible for prototyping or overseeing the prototyping of solutions.
  • May oversee project documentation, marketing, training, budget, schedules, and resource utilization on projects.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Research, assemble, and evaluate information or data regarding industry practices or regulatory changes affecting policies or programs of various information system domains.
  • Interface with customers – internal or external to Sandia – to elicit and define information system requirements.
  • Research, prototypes, architects, and designs solutions for effective operation of mission enabling or direct mission information systems.
  • Accountable to internal or external customers for overall technical performance of information systems.
  • Responsible for resolving issues that require architectural changes.
  • Develop strategic solutions that reduce future life-cycle costs and position Sandia synergistically for future mission work. (Note: an example of this might be cloud computing solutions that also serve as a starting point for mission solutions)
  • Identify risks and risk-reduction strategies as part of balancing performance, cost, and schedule for various technical options.
  • Report on progress and advances to peers, management, and stakeholders.
  • Participates in cross-system collaboration to define interfaces between systems.
  • Evaluate, test, and analyze implementation, functionality, performance, and tools of information system solutions, ensuring that requirements and acceptance criteria are met.
  • Integrate strategic and creative thinking with experience into the formulation of information system solutions and capabilities.
  • Advance solution space by resolving complex, difficult, or unique information system issues using creative, effective, and possibly leading-edge solutions.
  • Evaluate and select commercial-off-the-shelf or open-source information systems domain options.
  • Research solutions for problems that span multiple domains such as information assurance, hardware, software development, systems programming, data management, database development, systems security, networking, and telecommunications.
  • Provide architectural direction for information systems.
  • Integrate strategic thinking into the formulation of solutions and capabilities to ensure that long-term objectives and impacts are factored into the design process.
  • Recommend sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Serve as an on-call member of the Emergency Response Organization during actual emergency incidents, drills, and exercises.
  • Performs additional work as assigned by responsible manager.
    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite and on call.
