Description

Responsible for the strategic direction for training for relevant applications, aligning to the ITCS Training Strategy. Working in close partnership with the Epic app leads to develop delivery plans to meet requirements of cross-organisational directorates/care Groups and staff. Continual improvement of training development and delivery, utilising digital technologies/tools to maximise reach. Ensure training can be accessed remotely to support streamlined onboarding of bank/agency staff. Content adaption to support different learning styles and compliance with accessibility standards.
Lead a team of Principal Trainers, IT Trainers and Junior IT Trainers, providing guidance to drive high quality outputs, innovative thinking and developing staff to support multiple app areas. Work with the LMS team to ensure training (eLearning, assessments, libraries, guidance etc) is structured and clearly sign-posted.
Supporting Training Delivery Leads to gather training requirements and transformation opportunities, providing an equitable training service and opportunities for all directorates/care groups.
Work in partnership with Medical Education and Clinical Training teams across the organisations, ensuring training materials, content and learning objectives for staff are aligned and combined to provide accurate end-to-end workflow and clinical/operational context.
The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite, at one of our hospital sites for a minimum of 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of strategy and delivery plans for the applications assigned to the role, within the context of the over-arching ITCS Training Strategy; ensuring consideration for staff/professional groups, different learning styles, training cohorts (students, bank/agency etc..) and accessibility
Lead a team of trainers setting the strategic direction and outline plans/scope of their work to ensure consistent standards and quality outputs, timely delivery and prioritisation
Support the Ambulatory Training team to streamline processes and to optimise the way LMS and other systems/tools are used
Working in partnership with the ITCS Epic Application teams to design and shape changes to build/functionality, and oversee the updates to training products to align to these changes
Work in partnership with Medical Education and Clinical Training teams to align learning objectives, materials and where appropriate combining content for cohorts of staff
The post holder will take a lead on one or more projects, responsible for planning, day-to-day delivery, and subsequent performance management, adjusting plans as required to ensure that risks and issues are mitigated
Senior PT – Ambulatory will lead the Thrive programme for doctors and other clinicians, ensuring end users are upskilled in system personalisation and proficiency
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH) are two of London’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals, with a long and proud history, international reputations for their speciality services, teaching and research excellence, and a strong profile of local services to local residents in south east

Together the Trusts have an annual turnover of nearly £3bn and employ around 30,000 staff, with main GSTT sites at St Thomas’ Hospital and Guy’s Hospital, and main KCH sites at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill, the Princess Royal University Hospital, Bromley and Orpington Hospital. The Trusts are key partners within King’s Health Partners AHSC (KHP), and Guy’s and St Thomas’ merged with the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS FT (RBH) in the Spring of 2021.
The two Trusts share a Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) and a vision for digital services that are lean and agile, that maximise the benefits of a shared service operating model, and deliver the digital ambition for both Trusts. This ambition is supported by a forward-looking and strategic approach, and significant investment in a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) which will catalyse a programme of work across both Trusts to transform the way technology and data is used across our services.
Delivery
Lead planning and delivery of training for cross-organisational staff groups designing training, learning objectives and assessments and running training sessions aligned to staff/professional group needs and with consideration for pathway and speciality variances
Lead training design to ensure the training meets the needs of the service, is aligned to ITCS Training Strategy, and can be delivered to the timescales agreed with ITCS Training Leadership team
Develop and maintain expert knowledge of Epic applications/modules and operational processes to deliver high quality, effective and timely training to multidisciplinary end users
Travel to required locations within GSTT, KCH and partner organisations to gather stakeholder requirements, run at-the-elbow support or to deliver training sessions
Oversee and setup IT training equipment at training venues (lifting and carrying is involved)
Lead training delivery considerations for your team, including scheduling tasks and setting priorities for the team, ensuring cover in the event of sickness and/or annual leave to ensure the continuity of service is maintained across all sites and cancellation of training sessions are kept to an absolute minimum
Lead resolution of training related tickets/queries for your applications, ensuring responses are consistent, aligned to processes and within the agreed target timescales to end user support queries logged on the IT Service Desks
Lead evaluation of end users competency for the required application(s), using pre-determined course materials/assessments including refresher training and assessments; where appropriate make ITCS Leaders and/or local managers aware of areas of concern
Establish rotas, where needed, to deliver training outside of normal working hours, evenings and weekends
Lead review and evaluation of end user feedback identifying constructive ideas for improving future delivery/content; generate trackers/plans to identify areas for refinement or where new content is required indicating priorities and timescales for delivery and ensure changes continue to meet business needs
Lead production of course/lesson plans for application areas, ensuring they are relevant, up to date and in line with current practice and policies
Oversee maintenance of accurate training records for audit purposes, working in partnership with LMS and Systems Project Manager to extract and customise reports from the LMS for Service Level Agreement (SLA) and management purposes as required
Strategy and Planning
In conjunction with the Training Leads, develop strategy and plans, ensuring effective training timetables are implemented along with robust processes for accurately recording and reporting user attendance
Work with ITCS Training leads to develop and embed systems and processes to support any changes to ITCS Training delivery, operating practices and reporting requirements
Work with ITCS Leads, Deployment Analysts, Education Leads and staff to ensure that business requirements, and cohort training needs, are captured and prioritised
Plan and prioritise updates to LMS, to ensure changes and new content is loaded and configuration meets the requirements of the courses specified for a learning cohort or application
Support ITCS Training leads to develop robust communication strategy, across GSTT, KCH and partner organisations, to support understanding of ITCS Training Strategy and delivery approaches
Communication
Lead development of high quality, up to date and easy to follow end user training materials using ITCS style and appropriate format; eLearning, quick reference guides, presentations etc, gaining sign off from subject matter experts prior to release
Cross-organisational stakeholder engagement, communicating highly complex work processes with knowledge of local workflows which may create contentious situations
Facilitate decision making processes which may require management of hostile or highly emotive workshops or meetings
Lead development and delivering of complex presentations for large groups of staff
Lead training delivery, including eLearning support as necessary on a one to one basis or in a larger group environment dependent on service requirements using a blended learning approach wherever possible
Lead education and training for GSTT, KCH and its partner organisation following the Trust policies and protocols
Management and Development
Work in a complex and unstructured multi-disciplinary environment; be able to act with minimum guidelines and be an expert in the application areas for the role
Line management responsibility for a team of Principal Trainers, IT Trainers and Junior IT Trainers, ensuring quality and adherence to the standards
Lead continuous professional development and refresher training for your team, run Train the Trainer accreditation sessions and support professional development to ensure application and training breadth of knowledge for yourself and your team
Lead peer observations offering supportive and constructive feedback to Training colleagues
Lead development of formative and summative competence assessments for each course in line with adult learning styles for the relevant module that demonstrates achievement of course objectives and level 2 Kirkpatrick evaluation
Streamline Processes
Work with colleagues within HR& OD, Workforce and Medical Education Teams, across GSTT, KCH and partner organisations, to identify opportunities for improved systems usage to drive efficiencies and improvements across all teams and systems
Develop expertise in the use of LMS and related systems reporting capabilities and ensures that they are used to maximum effect to support the Training and Workforce Intelligence requirements including CQC data requests
Stakeholder Engagement
Lead development of specialist training when required, working with cross-organisational stakeholders to understand complex pathways and gaps in system understanding
Work in partnership with other Senior Principal Trainers, and in conjunction with Application Leads, to design new patient pathways, training materials and course content
Work in partnership with Lead Analysts and other Senior Principal Trainers to incorporate feedback from training sessions into future developments or make urgent changes to build as appropriate
Data Quality & Reporting
Establish data quality standards, templates and process for developing, updating and quality assuring training content including eLearning, lessons, EUPA/Assessments and in-person training
Develop and implement quality assurance process, to ensure training development and delivery adheres to established quality standards and is reviewed by peers and/or SMEs
Develop regular audits of data quality to review training content and feedback received from staff groups, and work with colleagues within ITCS Training team, HR&OD Teams and Workforce Intelligence to address any data quality issues with a focus on continuous improvement
Share and review training compliance reports, with clinical and operational groups across GSTT, KCH and partner organisations, to drive minimum standards across all staff groups where new and refresher training is developed
Act as a LMS super-user providing expert advice to colleagues as necessary
Project Management
Agile management of tasks and deliverables to drive progress against strategic training plans and to meet agreed milestones and objectives
Develop business cases or feasibility studies to support Training Leads with analysis of new services, teams or staff groups that are identified as in scope for learning and development
Provide project/training management expertise to the individuals in the training team and ensure that the leads have clear responsibilities, priorities, timescales and track delivery
Design, facilitate and effectively lead project/training management meetings with stakeholders; ensuring breadth in participation and a focus on action planning
Develop and maintain effective project reporting to project board
Proactively mitigate risk across all project activity, and assure that programme / project leads and stakeholders are aware
Determine and allocate staff and other resources for the project, monitoring work allocation and re-allocating as necessary to ensure successful delivery to time, cost and quality
Use appropriate project management practices and facilitate meetings of clinicians, managers, patients and other partners to agree priorities and action plans
Proactively monitor progress to ensure the project is managed in line with the Trust’s Values, Standing Financial Instructions, project management processes, and in compliance with appropriate legislation, statutory approvals and mandatory standards
Plan and implement appropriate evaluation and audit of projects across sites and organisations
Management and leadership
Lead development and in partnership with the other Senior Principal Trainers, innovative ways of delivering learning and performance for all staff groups using KSE (Knowledge, Skills and Experience) to drive transformational change, taking advantage of any new technical developments available
Assist development of ITCS training policies and procedures
Day to day management of Principal Trainers (and via the PTs management of IT Trainers and Junior IT Trainers)
Responsible for leading, coaching, motivating, developing and the performance management of direct reports to ensure skill and competency levels are maintained
Authorised signatory for timesheets and small purchases
Work collaboratively with other members of the team, providing (and receiving) cross-cover for other Senior Principal Trainers
