We’re Europe’s leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy and we are currently looking for a talented and motivated Senior/Principal Transport Consultant to join our team. This role could be based in our Manchester or Leeds Offices.
The successful candidate will help secure and deliver a range of transport planning projects and contribute to business development. In this role, you’ll be working within a team environment. You’ll support in the delivery of a wide variety of projects within our growing Appraisal, Strategy & Advisory team and you’ll be involved in a range of activities from bidding through to client management and project delivery. This could include supporting with policy and strategy planning, feasibility studies, modelling, transport appraisal and economic assessments and sustainable transport.

Responsibilities

WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE?

You will be leading the delivery of a wide variety of project tasks specifically related to traffic and transportation aspects. Typically the work is for local or combined authority clients covering a range of activities mainly related to transport planning, sustainable travel and traffic engineering.

CORE DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Contributing to various Transport Planning projects, such as transport business cases, sustainable travel, modelling, policy and strategy, and feasibility studies.
  • Offering analytical support across all teams, leveraging existing capabilities or acquiring new skills as needed.
  • Maintaining client communication to ensure project delivery aligns with their objectives and requirements.
  • Ensuring the technical accuracy of all work completed within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Facilitating effective stakeholder management and engagement through clear communication, ensuring that all parties are informed and involved throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Adhering to the Company’s Integrated Management Systems (IMS) in all tasks.
  • Providing technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues, and assisting in the mentoring and development of team members where possible.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues from other disciplines as necessary.
  • Participating in the preparation and presentation of proposals and bids, including estimating timescales and costs for proposed works.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU’LL POSSESS:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline, with a commitment to developing technical skills and progressing towards recognition as a Transport Planning/Engineering Professional (CTPP qualification or equivalent).
  • A background in transport planning, contributing to high-profile projects, with knowledge in areas such as business case development, scheme feasibility, transport assessments, strategies and modelling.
  • Demonstrate experience in stakeholder management, engagement, public consultation, and the development of effective communication strategies to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Experience of preparing and/or assuring business cases following HM Treasury Green Book and DfT TAG guidance for public sector customers. (desirable)
  • Excellent written communication skills, with proven experience in producing clear and effective reports.
  • A creative, solution-oriented mindset that considers multiple perspectives to solve problems.
  • The capacity to manage tasks efficiently, ensuring outputs meet programme, budget, and quality controls, while being adaptable to handle a varied workload and embrace new technologies.
  • Proven organisational and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines, along with experience in the financial and technical management of projects.
  • A strong interest in emerging technologies, innovation and artificial intelligence, and a desire to integrate these innovations into transport planning practices.
  • Experience of working work with local authority or combined authority clients.
