Quality Engineer Department Experience Reporting To Quality / QA-QC 6 10 Years Quality Manager Job Purpose To plan, implement, and maintain quality assurance and quality control activities across manufacturing processes, ensuring products conform to specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry/quality standards, while driving continuous improvement and defect reduction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality plans, control plans, and inspection procedures for new and existing products/processes.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) for internal, supplier, and customer quality issues using tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone.
- Prepare and maintain PFMEA, Control Plans, and process capability studies (Cpk/Ppk) for critical characteristics.
- Conduct in-process, incoming, and final inspections; review non-conformances and drive disposition through MRB (Material Review Board).
- Monitor supplier quality performance, conduct supplier audits, and support supplier development and PPAP/APQP submissions.
- Drive internal audits (process, product, and system) against ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 or equivalent quality management systems.
- Analyze quality KPIs (DPU, PPM, scrap/rework rate, customer complaints) and present findings to management with improvement action plans.
- Lead or support Six Sigma / Lean / Kaizen initiatives to reduce variation, waste, and cost of poor quality.
- Coordinate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues and support new product introduction (NPI).
- Maintain calibration schedules and ensure measurement systems analysis (MSA/Gage R&R) is performed for critical gauges.
- Train and mentor junior quality engineers/technicians and promote a quality-first culture on the shop floor.
- Ensure documentation control, traceability, and compliance with customer-specific requirements and regulatory standards.
Desired Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline.
- 610 years of progressive experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing/industrial environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001; IATF 16949 or AS9100 experience preferred depending on industry.
- Proficient in core quality tools: PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, PPAP/APQP, 8D, Root Cause Analysis.
- Hands-on experience with inspection equipment (CMM, calipers, gauges) and reading engineering drawings/GD&T.
- Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt certification is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and quality data analysis; exposure to Minitab or similar statistical software preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
