Description

As a strategic procurement leader at Hillstone Pharmacy, the Senior Procurement Specialist drives sourcing excellence across critical categories such as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, raw materials, packaging, and specialized contract services for a 503A compounding pharmacy environment. This role ensures supply continuity, cost efficiency, and strict regulatory compliance while enabling the safe, timely, and cost-effective preparation of compounded medications. Through strong supplier partnerships and an optimized total cost of ownership approach, the Senior Procurement Specialist strengthens Hillstone’s supply network and supports our mission to provide high-quality, patient-specific medications that improve outcomes and expand access to care.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong leadership, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills with the ability to manage high-value negotiations, influence decisions, and drive sourcing initiatives in a regulated pharmacy environment.
  • Proficient in pharmacy management systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, and advanced Excel; skilled in digital sourcing tools and knowledgeable in regulatory compliance, pharmaceutical terminology, and procurement best practices.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in vendor relationship management and contract negotiation within a cGMP, USP, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment, preferably with experience in a compounding pharmacy setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Supply Chain, Business, or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Experience managing sourcing for controlled substances and working with DEA-regulated suppliers is highly desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead sourcing strategies across APIs, excipients, raw materials, packaging, and specialized services to ensure a secure and cost-effective supply chain aligned with 503A compounding requirements and patient needs.
  • Negotiate contracts, supplier agreements, and service terms while managing supplier performance, implementing risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring uninterrupted supply for patient prescriptions.
  • Collaborate closely with Pharmacy Operations, Quality, Compliance, and Regulatory teams to ensure supplier qualification and compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), United States Pharmacopeia (USP <795>, <797>, <800>), and state Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Support new formula introductions, process validations, and supply readiness for ongoing compounding operations through proactive procurement planning and stakeholder coordination.
  • Champion procurement process optimization by integrating automation tools, digital inventory systems, and data-driven decision-making to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and drive continuous improvement in purchasing workflows.
  • Ensure all purchasing and vendor management activities align with DEA requirements for controlled substances when applicable.
