Overview:
GitHub is growing its Design team, and we’re seeking experienced professionals to elevate our product design efforts. As a Senior Product Designer on the GitHub Copilot team, you’ll generate innovative ideas, shape AI-powered developer experiences, and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to bring high-impact features to life. You’ll thrive in this role if you bring a strong sense of curiosity, especially about how emerging technologies like AI and LLMs can reshape how developers build software.

As a Product Designer, you will partner with other designers, product managers, and engineers to build the future of developer tools and interactive experiences extending across the web, IDEs, terminals, and mobile.
The GitHub Product Design Team is a group of talented individuals with varied backgrounds in product design, design systems, design ops, front-end development, and illustration. You’ll prioritize customer experiences, working closely with systems designers, engineers, technical writers, and product management to create and push for high-quality design.
Responsibilities:
- Drive product direction by shaping solutions to complex problems, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities.
- Prototype and explore AI-powered ideas, using model capabilities, user behavior, and design intuition to inform direction.
- Design thoughtful accessible experiences that work seamlessly across web, IDEs, terminals, and mobile.
- Make decisions at pace, help the team move through ambiguity by prioritizing progress over perfection.
- Collaborate with engineers, PMs, and researchers to iterate quickly and deliver high-quality features.
- Communicate clearly and with purpose, aligning teams through storytelling, rationale, and thoughtful critique.
- Scale design through systems thinking, contributing to our design system and applying reusable patterns and architecture.
- Bring clarity to complexity by structuring ambiguous problems and uncovering actionable paths forward.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7+ years experience in product or service design,
- OR bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 5+ years’ experience in product or service design,
- OR master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years’ experience in product or service design,
- OR doctorate in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in product or service design,
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience as a Product Designer working with Engineers, Product Managers, and other Designers.
- Experience shipping products/features end-to-end and presenting your work to a variety of audiences.
- Experience designing projects that work across multiple platforms and applying UX principles, user research methods, and a user-centric approach to product design.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Portfolio showcasing your involvement in projects, highlighting your hands-on experience as a product designer.
- Experience designing for Large Language Models and AI.
- Experience designing for developer tools.
- Experience contributing to or using an established design system.
Compensation Range: The base salary range for this job is USD $112,800.00 - USD $299,300.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
