JOB SUMMARY:

As a Senior Product Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and enhancement of automotive components and systems at ABC Technologies. By leveraging your technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and collaboration, you will ensure the successful design and development of automotive parts that meet performance, quality, and cost objectives while managing product lifecycle activities, troubleshooting challenges, and ensuring products are compliant with internal and external standards.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field is required. PEng designation.
  • Minimum 5+ years of prior experience in a similar role.
  • Prior experience in automotive manufacturing, working with OEM’s and Tier 1 Suppliers.
  • Advanced coursework or specialized training in automotive systems, product design, manufacturing processes, and engineering management can be beneficial.
  • Experience overseeing the full development lifecycle of new automotive products, from concept and prototyping through to mass production.
  • Proven track record of successful launches of automotive parts.
  • Knowledge and experience with plastic moulding processes.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as stamping, casting, welding, and assembly processes.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and solve complex technical problems, conduct root cause analyses, and make data-driven decisions. Ability to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts, provide guidance, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in defining project scope, setting timelines, and allocating resources.
  • Excellent at prioritizing tasks, mitigating risks, and ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, testing methods, and automotive regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting and improving quality assurance processes to ensure product reliability and compliance.
  • Motivated to drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives in product design, engineering processes, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Proven track record in identifying opportunities for cost reduction, performance optimization, and technological advancements.
  • Knowledge of automotive standards and regulations (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, SAE standards, safety regulations).
  • Ability to take on a leadership role and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Motivation and ability to inspire and motivate teams, delegate tasks, and drive results.
  • Technical training in FMEA, GD&T, VE/VA, APQP, PPAP, and Control Plans.
Responsibilities
  • Product Design and Development: Collaborate with design teams to conceptualize new automotive parts or refine existing designs.
  • Prototyping: Coordinate the development of prototypes to validate designs and ensure feasibility in manufacturing.
  • Performance Evaluation: Contribute to engineering analyses (e.g., structural analysis, thermal analysis, durability analysis) involving tools like Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to ensure parts meet performance requirements.
  • Customer Interaction: Establish open communication with customers to offer suggestions and/or gather feedback to make product improvements as required.
  • Cost Optimization: Work to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Material Compatibility: Select appropriate materials based on performance specifications, cost considerations, and manufacturing processes.
  • Testing and Validation: Develop and execute testing plans to validate the performance and durability of automotive parts under various conditions (e.g., environmental, operational).
  • Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing engineering representatives to ensure designs can be efficiently and effectively produced on the production line.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality control teams to establish inspection criteria and standards to ensure parts meet quality requirements.
  • Timelines and Budgets: Manage projects within designated timelines and budgets, ensuring deliverables meet customer and internal expectations.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and mitigate risks associated with design and development processes.
  • Presentation: Communicate project updates, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders, including engineering teams, management, and customers.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical direction to junior or mid-level engineers.
  • Decision-making: Make recommendations to leadership regarding the product roadmap or improvements to the product or development process.
