Description
Worker Type: Permanent Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way." We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same. Ko mātou tēnei | This is Us You’ll join the Customer, Products & Services (CP&S) to support delivery of BNZ’s Core Ledger Replacement (CLR) and other cross-functional transformation initiatives. The Programme Management Office leads governance, keep delivery aligned to strategy, and provide clear, decision-ready reporting to senior leadership and governance forums. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role We sat down with the People Leader (who you would report to) and they told us the following about the role: This is a full time, permanent opportunity based in Auckland. It is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly. What you’ll do: You’ll provide programme delivery leadership across large, cross-functional, multi-year initiatives, bringing pace and clarity through strong governance, operating rhythm and executive-ready reporting. You’ll own programme-level risks, issues and dependencies, and lead disciplined change control and go-live readiness so decisions are made with confidence. Working with delivery leads and partners across product, operations, technology, risk and finance, you’ll drive planning, resourcing, forecasting and funding/investment asks, and where relevant oversee vendor and commercial performance against outcomes. You’ll also focus on benefits realisation and uplift how we work building repeatable PMO practices, improving data quality and performance insights, and coaching a high-performing team of programme support specialists. What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? Lead programme governance and operating rhythm setting cadence, preparing/facilitating steerco and working forums, and ensuring decisions and actions are captured and progressed. Drive outcomes delivery through disciplined change control, go-live readiness, and benefits realisation tracking (including vendor/commercial performance where relevant). Proactively manage and escalate programme risks, issues and dependencies, maintaining clear escalation paths and driving actions through to resolution. Lead programme planning, resourcing and forecasting including sequencing, capacity planning, budget oversight and funding/investment asks in partnership with delivery leads and enterprise stakeholders. Develop and synthesise programme performance insights triangulating data from multiple sources to produce executive-ready reporting and recommendations for senior leaders and governance bodies. What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year? The initial focus is supporting delivery outcomes for BNZ’s Core Ledger Replacement (CLR) programme, including programme-level delivery leadership, governance, operating rhythms, and performance reporting to steerco/executive forums. Over the next 12 months, the role will also support multi-year planning and investment horizon work including forecasting, funding asks, and portfolio-level PMO practices as delivery priorities and sequencing evolve across CP&S. What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? You’ll be at the centre of a major, high-profile transformation helping shape how large-scale programmes are governed, planned and delivered, and providing the strategic insight leaders need to make decisions. It’s a chance to influence outcomes that matter for customers and colleagues, and to build a high-performing support capability that makes delivery easier for teams doing the work. What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity? You’ll operate in a fast-moving, high-change environment with multiple streams, competing priorities, and complex interdependencies. The challenge is to bring clarity building and sustaining fit-for-purpose governance, data-driven reporting and effective escalation while influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority, and balancing pace with strong risk, budget and resourcing discipline. What skills are required for this role? Experience leading or supporting large, multi-stream programmes in a high-change environment, ideally within banking and/or technology portfolios. Strong programme/portfolio management, experienced in planning, forecasting, resourcing, budget oversight, and investment/funding narratives. End-to-end delivery lifecycle experience (design to deployment) across both waterfall and agile ways of working. Proficiency in modern delivery toolsets (e.g., Excel; Jira and Confluence or similar) and strong understanding of delivery methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, PMI, Agile). Ability to develop programme performance metrics and create clear, compelling executive-level reporting and presentations for steerco/board decision-making. Desirable: experience in core banking / core ledger transformation, consulting environments, and multi-year horizon planning and investment thesis development. What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role? Influential communicator: builds trusted relationships across product, operations, technology, risk and finance, and brings crisp insights and recommendations to senior forums. Structured in ambiguity: creates clarity through fit-for-purpose governance and operating rhythm, and navigates complex cross-stream dependencies without slowing delivery. Outcomes and commercial focus: understands trade-offs, maintains discipline across budget and resourcing, and keeps delivery aligned to agreed outcomes and benefits. Risk and controls minded: anticipates delivery and operational risks, embeds compliance considerations into plans and decisions, and escalates issues with evidence. Resilient people leader: stays calm under pressure, coaches a high-performing support team, and lifts programme delivery capability over time.
