The opportunity We are seeking a highly capable Senior Project Accountant – Asset Management to join our Energy & Utilities Finance team, reporting directly to the Finance Manager. This role is based within a large, complex, asset-intensive environment supporting critical infrastructure across capital and operational projects. This is a key commercial finance position responsible for end-to-end financial management of our asset base, including plant, equipment and fleet. You will partner closely with Asset Management, Operations, Project Delivery, and senior leaders to ensure optimal asset utilisation, accurate cost recovery, and strong financial governance. What you’ll do * Lead asset and fleet accounting, including charge-outs, utilisation tracking, and cost recovery models * Own month-end processes including reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis * Maintain and govern Fixed Asset and Fleet Registers, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls * Deliver commercial insights to support asset investment decisions, capital planning, and performance optimisation * Partner with operational and project leaders to translate financial data into clear, actionable business outcomes What we offer * Opportunity to work in a Tier 1 ASX-listed organisation with large-scale infrastructure assets * Strong focus on internal mobility, succession planning, and career progression within Energy & Utilities * Access to leadership development programs and professional growth pathways * Employee benefits including financial, retail, travel and wellbeing discounts * High-performing, supportive finance team culture with exposure to senior stakeholders and complex projects What we’re looking for We are looking for a commercially astute and technically strong finance professional who thrives in complex, asset-heavy environments. * CA/CPA qualified with 10+ years’ experience in financial or project accounting * Strong background in asset or fleet accounting and large fixed asset registers * Experience in capital-intensive or contracting environments (infrastructure, utilities, construction preferred) * Advanced Excel skills with exposure to ERP systems (SAP or JDE desirable) and Power BI advantageous * Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and communicate complex financial insights clearly About Energy & Utilities Downer’s Energy & Utilities business unit is an integrated trans-Tasman team, providing services and solutions that connect communities to essential networks and infrastructure.
