Senior Project Accountant On‑Site Finance at the Heart of Major Projects UGLs’ Major Projects business unit delivers large‑scale EPC projects across transport, energy, resources and industrial sectors, including nationally significant work such as Cross River Rail, major rail upgrades, Victorian Big Battery, Western Downs Battery, and major industrial and resources facilities. These projects demand strong commercial discipline, tight cost control and close collaboration between finance and delivery teams. This newly created position for a Senior Project Accountant will be based on the North East Link project in Melbourne, working on the fit‑out of a live tunnel package under a UGL joint‑venture structure. The contract is cost‑reimbursable, valued at approximately $120m, and requires strong control of actual costs, labour, productivity and work‑in‑progress to support the delivery program. Why this role Your first assignment will be to work on the North East Link infrastructure project. Be embedded on site, and partner closely with project and commercial teams. Play a key role on a cost‑reimbursable contract, focused on actuals, forecasting and cost control. Strong exposure to SAP (FPM) on a large, high‑profile project. Opportunity to grow into larger projects or 2IC commercial roles over time. About the role As the Senior Project Accountant, you will be site‑based and play a critical role in supporting the commercial and project delivery teams on a major construction project. This is a hands‑on role focused on actual cost control, forecasting and cost‑to‑complete, providing insight into project performance, identifying risks early and helping drive informed decision‑making. The role is highly system‑driven, with SAP at the centre of day‑to‑day activity. Key responsibilities Prepare and manage project actuals, forecasts and cost‑to‑complete. Ensure accurate capture of labour, payroll, expenses and indirect costs. Analyse productivity, labour trends and cost drivers. Support cash flow analysis and work‑in‑progress (WIP) control. Strong understanding of WIP, earned value and cost‑to‑complete in a project environment. Hands‑on experience with SAP. Comfortable working site‑based and engaging directly with delivery teams. Strong analytical skills with the confidence to challenge and influence.
