SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER – CIVIL

McMillen, Inc. is looking for a Senior Project Engineer - Civil with 15-20 years of experience focused in water resource-related work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited university required (MS with a civil focus preferred)
  • Professional Engineer registration required
  • 10+ years of experience related to geotechnical analysis and design and/or dam safety engineering
  • Skill in reading, interpreting and communicating contract documents, plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of FERC Guidelines preferred
  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction related to dam and hydro infrastructure
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to convey technical information through written and verbal communication (English)
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to work in a team environment, work independently and be self-motivated
  • Willing to travel up to 25%
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Responsibilities
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines for planning and executing work in a safe manner
  • Work in conjunction with engineers, geologists, and scientists to solve project challenges, performing design calculations as required.
  • Support dam safety engineering, by supporting the multi-disciplinary needs of the dam safety programs
  • Multi-task across various disciplines and locations in support of dam and other hydroelectric specific project work
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of subject-matter experts and project contributors in a collaborative team environment
  • Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research to assess challenges and develop solutions.
  • Conduct field inspections; observe and participate in field exploration and testing programs; and perform site characterizations and evaluate geotechnical hazards
  • Assist in the selection of criteria for planning, design, and construction of dams, tunnels, foundations, slopes, and earth-retaining structures.
  • Assess subsurface conditions, including soil and rock properties and geomechanical conditions, including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data, and other field documentation. Evaluate field and laboratory test data and develop parameters for use in technical analyses.
  • Conduct numerical analysis using programs such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE, UDEC, Phase2, Rocscience SLIDE..
  • Prepare technical reports including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • General knowledge of seismic analyses
  • Provide field engineering support for projects during construction.
  • Participate in professional development and training activities.
  • Manage projects including client expectations and project scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Project and Task Management effectively manage multi-discipline teams for hydroelectric and dam projects
  • Mentor more junior engineers in a respectful and collaborative manner that promotes positive team spirit
