Description

Under the direction of the Land Drainage and Flood Protection Branch Head, the Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the execution, completion and implementation of capital projects including project definition, consultant selection, project management, administration, coordination, startup and turnover. Projects include engineering studies, designs, construction and contract administration for upgrading and expansion to water supply, treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, land drainage and solid waste disposal system.

As the Senior Project Engineer, you will:

  • Initiate projects and ensure execution and products conform to Department and City-wide broad objectives and needs.
  • Ensure technical approach complies with appropriate standards and conforms with project objectives.
  • Administer human resources.
  • Administer capital budgets and expenditures.
  • Administer project schedules.
  • Disseminate and receive project information.
  • Acquire goods and services from outside organizations.
  • Develop, initiate and administer risk management procedures.
  • Coordinate project execution, approvals and implementation.
  • Provides other services as required.

YOUR EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Civil, Mechanical, or Biosystems Engineering).
  • Master’s Degree in Environmental / Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • 7 years prior experience in a field directly related to the duties of the position.
  • Experience in engineering planning, design and construction, project management and contract administration.
  • Must have strong demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including leadership, and ability to work in teams, facilitate teambuilding, conduct meetings and strong negotiation skills.
  • Must be proficient at technical writing.
  • Must have demonstrated technical and non-technical oral communication ability.
  • Must have basic computer skills, including keyboarding, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Must have knowledge of project management processes and procedures, including project accounting and cost management, scheduling, resource management, risk management, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution.
  • Must be familiar with relevant municipal government policies and procedures, including purchasing policies, and legal and contractual requirements.
  • Must be familiar with municipal infrastructure and operations, including water and wastewater treatment process operations, collection and distribution and servicing.
  • Must have knowledge of construction materials, methods and practices, including job site safety.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with the public.
