POSITION OVERVIEW

The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring the technical success of project outputs within budget and schedule constraints. This role focuses on the technical management and coordination of engineering resources to achieve compliance with customer requirements in AC and DC power conversion and protection products. Projects may range from product refreshes of fielded systems to new product introductions.
The Project Engineer typically serves as a team leader for medium-to-large engineering groups, with occasional assignments as an individual contributor. Responsibilities include managing and driving the creation, review, and submission of project artifacts such as plans, procedures, reports, design documents, and technical manuals. The role also leads major design and program reviews, working closely with engineers to provide real-time technical guidance in design, testing, and system requirements.
This position requires a detail-oriented, structured, and organized professional who can communicate large amounts of technical data clearly and concisely while maintaining a strong understanding of system operations and end-user needs.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Broad-based technical knowledge to evaluate design and development across engineering disciplines, with strong preference for Electrical Power Conversion and Systems Engineering.
  • Experience across the full lifecycle of hardware/software products (concept → production), including architecture, design, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Knowledge of engineering processes such as Lean Product Development, Design for X (DFX), Six Sigma, PLM, and systems engineering.
  • Ability to decompose complex projects, assign work across disciplines, and plan execution effectively.
  • Prior experience in the military/defense contracting environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations to customers and internal teams.
  • Proven experience leading integrated product teams (IPTs).
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, and arbitration skills.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel and Project).
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experience with PLM tools (Agile).
  • Experience with MRP systems (CostPoint).
  • PMP Certification.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science and at least 6 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in progress in Engineering/Science and at least 4 years of relevant experience, OR
  • In lieu of a degree: minimum 10 years of technical and project management experience.
    Preferred: Experience in electrical power distribution, generation, or conversion equipment development
