POSITION OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking a highly capable Senior Project Leader with strong operations and maintenance (O&M) experience to support Nuclear Sustainability Services (NSS) and the Darlington Waste Management Facility (DWMF). This role will lead strategic projects and initiatives that ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable handling of nuclear waste, with a particular focus on identifying and mitigating single point vulnerabilities and advancing temporary storage solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a background in nuclear or heavy industry operations and maintenance, as well as project management expertise. Familiarity with OPG or Bruce Power operations and best practices (OPEX) is considered a strong asset.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Applied Sciences, Business Administration, or a related technical discipline.
  • Additional education or certification in Project Management or Asset Management is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of progressive experience in project leadership roles, ideally in nuclear, utilities, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven background in operations and maintenance project planning and execution.
  • Experience managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, contracts, and competing priorities (scope, schedule, cost, quality).
  • Understanding of work management systems, plant operations, and industrial equipment/processes.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting, forecasting, and financial tracking as related to project management.

SKILLS:

  • Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence decisions.
  • Capable of managing and resolving competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify and mitigate risks proactively.
  • Working knowledge of project management tools and MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the single point of contact for daily operations and maintenance activities at the Darlington Waste Management Facility (DWMF).
  • Lead and coordinate short- and long-term planning efforts across Operations, Work Management, Engineering, Maintenance, and Project teams.
  • Support the NSS Manager and Senior Manager in the initiation, development, and execution of strategic projects.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress, cost, and schedule, ensuring transparency and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead specific initiatives, such as:
  • Mitigation of single point vulnerabilities related to welding at the Darlington waste facility.
  • Project delivery for the temporary low/intermediate level waste conversion in the Retube Waste Storage Building.
  • Identify and evaluate operational risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement contingency plans.
  • Administer and oversee maintenance and project contracts, ensuring scope, budget, and quality alignment.
  • Collaborate and interface with various stakeholders including engineering, operations, maintenance, and external contractors.
  • Provide technical and strategic input to improve asset performance and lifecycle management of nuclear waste infrastructure.
