DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The mandate of the Department of Environment and Climate Change is to manage land, water, air, wildlife, and forests. This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG), or other relevant and equivalent professional designations.
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP), or if not yet obtained, it will be required within 18 months of hire.

Equivalencies include:

  • An Master’s degree from an accredited university in an applicable engineering, geology, geoscience field or an applicable environmental science field, along with a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience, including those in remediation of mining, exploration and/or oil and gas sites, two years of which in a supervisory role.
  • An diploma from an accredited university in an applicable engineering, geology, geoscience field or an applicable environmental science field, along with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible related experience, including those in remediation of mining, exploration and/or oil and gas sites, two years of which in a supervisory role.
