Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

The position of Project Manager (Substations) will be responsible for the delivery of substations for our GGP Projects throughout England. The post holder will report directly to the relevant Business Unit General Manager.

The post is specifically focused on:

  • The safe and efficient delivery of individual projects to the highest possible construction standards within budget and on time.
  • The commercial success of individual projects ensuring the profitable delivery of each project at the pre-calculated margins.
  • The management and performance of a discrete group of staff both on site and in support roles to ensure optimum project delivery.
  • Project cost control at all times.
  • Maximisation of productivity.
  • Maintain effective communication both internally, within the business to ensure optimum project delivery and externally, with all customers, developing a relationship of trust on which future business can be secured.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Total responsibility for driving and delivering all projects assigned to you.
  • Creation and updating of civil and electrical programmes in line with PESL / client requirements.
  • Timely completion of the electrical bill of quantities and receipt of purchase orders prior to mobilisation on site.
  • Ensuring the “sales handover process” is carried out as documented & within an agreed timescale prior to mobilisation.
  • Ensuring purchase orders are raised for new and existing suppliers as and when required. Challenge terms and conditions to reflect “value for money” in conjunction with the contracts / quantity surveying (QS) department.
  • Actively contribute to and support Health & Safety across all sites to ensure delivery of a world class “safety culture” (including monthly safety audits, adherence to PESL Project Management Procedures and current H&S Legislation).
  • Manage the transition between the civil and electrical phases to maintain safety and eliminate unnecessary costs.
  • Monitor and assist in the collection and reporting of financial data relating to electrical bill of quantities.
  • Promote and monitor “approved on site administration practices”.
  • Provide clarity around all claims relating to payment applications so as to ensure prompt payment.
  • Encourage at all times use of “best practices” so as to ensure maximum utilisation of time, materials and resources.
  • Compile relevant electrical information for inclusion in the station safety file.
  • Positively challenge all our processes, systems and methodology.
  • Encourage staff at all levels to take ownership of their business and contribute to its continuing success by encouraging and developing commercial awareness in everything they do.
  • Continue to assist in the updating of our “overall” work programme & resource” schedule.
  • Responsible for all resource allocation in Ireland in conjunction with Andy Hunter and John Potts.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate and lead where required all progress and safety meetings
  • Maximise the use of our vehicle management system – Fleetstar – to make full commercial use of all information generated by this system
  • Management of the tools and equipment budget
  • Contribute fully to the pricing process during tender preparation
  • Provide “feedback” from site on actual project delivery which can be used to improve the pricing and tender process in the future
