KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and managing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and engineering documentation.
  • Leading delivery of Power Renewal projects and coordinating with internal teams.
  • Preparing and reviewing design scopes, engineering change submissions, and regulatory applications.
  • Conducting safety and quality reviews to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Managing occupations, permits, and stakeholder coordination in line with Yarra Trams frameworks.
  • Monitoring procurement processes and ensuring timely availability of materials.
  • Providing technical advice and reporting on project progress, risks, and outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering and membership with Engineers Australia (chartered status preferred).
  • Experience in engineering or rail transport environments.
  • Knowledge of public and private sector contracting arrangements.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Strong project management experience delivering complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Background in power distribution and traction systems (SCADA experience desirable).
  • Expertise in electrical design, commissioning, and protection systems (AC/DC).
  • Familiarity with HV switchgear and rail traction commissioning processes.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience within project teams.
  • Deep understanding of OHS&E legislation, quality, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
Responsibilities

ROLE PURPOSE

At Yarra Trams, we’re proud to operate a world-class tram network that keeps Melbourne moving. As a Project Engineer – Power Renewals, you will play a key role in delivering infrastructure upgrades that support safe and reliable tram services.

You will:

  • Manage small to medium multidisciplinary infrastructure projects across track, power, signalling, and overhead.
  • Deliver Annual Works Plan, Major Capital Improvement, and Enhanced Renewal projects.
  • Support service delivery and maintenance teams to meet contractual commitments with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Utilise resources from delivery teams, contractors, and consultants.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards throughout project delivery.
  • Contribute to future-proofing and continuous improvement of tram infrastructure.
