SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER The role The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the leadership and management of major (complex) project(s) or program as assigned. This role is responsible for ensuring that the technical (encompassing Product Safety), cost and schedule goals associated with the assigned project(s) or program are achieved in accordance with stated requirements in order to achieve required business performance. In conduct of assigned duties, the Senior Project Manager must maintain the goodwill of the Customer’s management, competently manage the sub-contractors and provide effective leadership to the project teams within their remit. The position liaises directly with the internal and external stakeholders, including Defense Industry, Contractors, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Repair Agents (RAs), ANZAC and as applicable other classes of Ships, CASG Capital Projects and Testing Authorities. Further, the successful candidate will: Lead the assigned Program under the general guidance of the Manager Major to successfully execute the contract and accountable for all aspects of Program delivery Ensure the Program team achieves the required performance in terms of schedule, budget and technical requirements. Ensure those products and services delivered as part of a program are in accordance with relevant product safety policies and achieve customer satisfaction. Ensure that all members of the project team are engaged, understand requirements and proactively manage their contribution to product safety and achieving the Customers’ desired outcomes. Conduct Program and Project reviews as required meeting program and project review requirements. Act as the Customer-side focal point for the Industry Participants respective Project Management teams, external stakeholders and Customer discussions. Conduct reviews of MPRs and provide feedback on overall project status to the relevant party or parties. Build and maintain all stakeholder relationships by being the main focal point for stakeholder contact. Identify, monitor and mitigate program and project risks. Identify project opportunities and develop capture plans, with the support of other functional areas within the teams’ scope. Review Project Packages, Stage Outputs and Participant Project Plans to ensure the content accurately reflects the task and meets the requirements of the Customer and provide the level of control and reporting necessary to effectively manage the project. Prepare or Review Project level documentation such as Certification Plan, TEMP, Security Plan, etc. as required by and in support of the Major Capital Project Office. Prepare and deliver scope, manage, RFP and financial documentation (inclusive of S23) as required by and in support of the Major Capital Project Office (or equivalent). Liaise with Alliance Industry Participants to progress project documentation required to enable Reviews and other project financial and high-level documentation as listed above for tasks designated by Major Projects. Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from occasionally after discussion with the manager This role is a 12-month Fixed term Contract and will be Henderson/Rockingham based. Most of teamwork part time in both locations, but predominantly in Henderson. About you Your skills and experience will include: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Program/Project Management within an engineering organisation including 2 years at a senior level. This would also involve extensive experience working in and leading multi-disciplinary programs. Experience in the development and delivery of systems/products that are of a technically complex and business critical in nature. Successful management of project teams consisting external contractors, defence stakeholders and tasked service personnel. Previous Naval engineering experience (Combat/Communications), possibly within the ANZAC Class. Demonstrated understanding of Naval Technical Regulatory Framework. A detailed understanding of current WHS and Environmental legislation and the Commonwealth’s obligations regarding them. Practical experience in working in a risk-based management structure, including a good understanding of Navy’s Risk Management System (RMS). Understand the difference between systems safety and product safety as inputs to controlling the baseline through compliance, risk management and governance. Knowledge of product – cost – schedule as inputs to managing technical risk to understand implications of decisions. Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering discipline, preference for Electronics/Electrical related. Attain Engineering Authority Level 3 within 3 months of assuming the role. Be eligible to be accepted as a Chartered Professional Engineer in Engineers Australia, or an equivalent organisation that promotes professional development. As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1/NV2 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
