About the Role
The Senior Project Manager is a key point of contact for TechAlliance programs focused on enhancing the innovation capacity and accelerating the growth of high-potential enterprises in key sectors. The role oversees a Project Coordinator and works closely with the Venture Growth team to support ventures and ensure their successful completion of program expectations, project milestones, and reporting and financial requirements. They will be a partner in the venture’s success, as such, this role will enhance opportunities for founders and create positive impact within Ontario’s innovation economy.
The Senior Project Manager will have end-to-end ownership of significant organizational projects and will partner with other team members on areas such as event management and marketing campaigns to identify prospects or partners, storytelling, press and earned media for projects, founder journeys, and venture profiles. The Senior Project Manager will collaborate closely with stakeholders and other ecosystem partners to ensure accurate metrics, narratives for reports, and budget alignment where needed.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep alignment with TechAlliance’s overall mission; strive to improve Southwestern Ontario and Canadian innovation to drive positive societal and economic outcomes; have project management experience and a strong financial acumen; and ideally have prior experience in the technology or innovation space as a founder, leader or operator.

Reporting to the People & Operations Leader you will

  • Manage the lifecycle of organizationally important suite of projects, including project planning, execution, tracking, and closure.
  • Execute and report external funder KPIs and internal dashboards for functional areas aligned with strategic objectives for TechAlliance including development and maintenance of project budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability and alignment with funding requirements.
  • Define and deliver project timelines and ensure all projects meet compliance and reporting requirements associated with public funding.
  • Develop comprehensive project reports, including financial summaries, performance reporting, and narratives for internal and external audiences.
  • Be a visible, public face, working closely with industry and business leaders to facilitate the growth and competitiveness of local entrepreneurship.
  • Serve as the primary contact for project funders, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Manage the strategic and tactical performance of at least one Project Coordinator to ensure successful completion of their independent projects, tasks and deliverables.
  • Lead the review and selection of applicants for funding opportunities
  • In a business development capacity, recruit new project prospects by attending regional tech and entrepreneurship experiences across each of the five counties we serve (outside of standard business hours).
  • Lead ecosystem partner meetings while advocating for the unique mandate of TechAlliance and our client companies to stakeholders, collaborators, and ecosystem connections.
  • Work closely with members of the TechAlliance Venture Growth team to ensure all client companies receive equitable and appropriate level of service and ongoing support through the Advisors, Growth Coaches or Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, while making referrals where appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the Venture Growth team, guide companies by assisting with client project development, milestones, and disbursement of grant funding.
  • Be responsible for the integrity of data collection and maintenance in TechAlliance’s CRM.
  • Have subject matter expertise for project-specific copy, including web content, social media campaigns, and press releases for the purpose of project announcements, new events, funding opportunities, special events and programming for innovators, founders, serial entrepreneurs, and unicorn CEOs.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to drive campaigns, storytelling, and earned media for projects and supported ventures, while leading the development and execution of multiple significant events from conception to completion.

What you need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post-secondary education in business, communications, project management, or a related field.
  • PMP certification is preferred.
  • 7+ years experience in a project management role; managing publicly funded projects would be an asset.
  • Strong team player with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in addition to stealth project management capabilities.
  • Be creative and resourceful with challenges, leading with a solutions-focused approach.
  • Embrace and seek out opportunities for self-improvement and development.
  • Demonstrated success in building credibility, managing relationships, and proactively collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strong financial acumen with prior experience managing project budgets.
  • In-depth knowledge of principles of writing, including grammar and style, attention to detail, proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language.
  • Superior oral and written communications skills including active listening and demonstrating professionalism in both presentation and demeanor.
  • Acute understanding of social media platforms from content, audience, and technical perspective, and active on Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Dedicated team player who can contribute to a vibrant team culture and core values, while prioritizing multiple and changing demands.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent planning and time management while working independently and with ambiguity.
  • Highly self-motivated, innovative thinker with a creative flair and passion.
  • Knowledge of and active connector to key ecosystem players in Southwestern Ontario
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, project management tools (Asana, Monday.com), Salesforce, Slack, MailChimp, Canva, and Eventbrite.
  • Valid driver’s licence, access to a vehicle, and resides in Elgin, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, or Oxford County.
