Working to the protect the state’s environment and heritage.   * Internal expression of interest * Temporary until 31 December 2026 * Office location upon negotiation across NSW, hybrid working supported * Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $124,322 to $138,494 + super   The Water for the Environment Branch is seeking expressions of interest for a Senior Project Officer to support delivery of the Reconnecting Watercourse Country Program (RWCP).   About the role The RWCP is delivering infrastructure works to reduce constraints on environmental water delivery across the Gwydir River and Gingham watercourses. The program currently includes eight watercourse crossings on private land, involving: * Environmental assessment and approvals * Engineering design development * Landholder and stakeholder consultation * Construction delivery.   The team is managing a range of specialist consultants across cultural heritage, ecology, and engineering disciplines, and is responsible for preparing a Review of Environmental Factor (REF) documentation for each site. To support program delivery, we are seeking a Senior Project Officer to prepare REF documentation in collaboration with the project team, while also providing coordination, review and quality assurance support. This role may involve occasional travel to the Newcastle or Parramatta offices.   About You We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Senior Environmental Scientist or Ecologist to support the preparation and delivery of environmental assessment and approval documentation for the RWCP.   The successful candidate will bring strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills, along with the ability to synthesise complex technical information into clear, defensible and practical environmental planning outcomes. You will have demonstrated experience preparing a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) or similar environmental assessment documentation and a strong multidisciplinary understanding of environmental and/or water science. You will contribute to the review, interpretation and quality assurance of technical studies, integrating findings from specialist disciplines such as ecology, heritage and engineering into clear and cohesive approval documentation.   Working collaboratively across project teams, you will contribute to the preparation of REF documentation across multiple sites, support the navigation of planning and approvals pathways, and assist in managing consultation and notification requirements. You will coordinate inputs from technical specialists and provide pragmatic advice on environmental risks, mitigation measures and approval strategies to support the timely delivery of projects.   Experience working with or alongside infrastructure and water-related projects is highly desirable, as is familiarity with water-based construction activities and associated environmental impact pathways.
