Close to Wynyard station & hybrid work arrangements available About us At the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), we are dedicated to carrying out meaningful work that drives improvements and elevates student achievement across NSW, now and into the future. We accomplish this by supporting all school sectors with high-quality syllabuses, assessment (including managing the HSC and NAPLAN), teaching standards (e.g., accrediting teachers) and school environments (including setting and monitoring school standards). NESA is a unique organisation in NSW (of around 740FTE staff) with significant state-wide impact, visit our website to learn more about the important work we do. About the role The Senior Project Officer, ICT manages and coordinates the evaluation of NESA’s current technology in delivering the Higher School Certificate (HSC), and the design and development of its future technology to support the achievement of organisational objectives. This role contributes to the delivery of a broad range of technology initiatives, including reform-oriented, enterprise and operational projects. Working across multiple projects at different stages, you will apply a “whole of project” perspective from planning through to delivery and transition, helping ensure project activities remain focused on the intended outcomes and organisational objectives, rather than solely on task completion. Working closely with the Principal Project Manager, ICT, you will support engagement with a range of diverse stakeholders, develop evidence-based advice and recommendations, and drive projects that may be complex, interconnected and highly visible. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable project professional who enjoys operating with autonomy, navigating complexity and delivering meaningful organisational change. On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for: Supporting the management of project planning, development and implementation activities, contributing to the delivery of outcomes within agreed timeframe, budget, quality standards and scope. Preparing and reviewing project scope and business cases for projects with multiple interdependencies. Monitoring project progress, risk, benefits and quality measures, and contributing to actions that keep projects on track while enhancing delivery practices and informing future project planning. Establishing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management. Leading and facilitating productive discussions with stakeholders to help navigate differing viewpoints and support informed decision-making. Coordinating across ICT, procurement, P&C and other business areas to support governance, compliance and contract management activities in line with established frameworks. Supporting the management of vendors, service providers and consultants, including monitoring contract performance, reconciling invoices, endorsing or approving payments and contributing to discussion on required outcomes and timeframes, in line with the agreed governance arrangements. Undertaking research and analysis, applying critical thinking to examine information, identify interdependencies and contribute to evidence-based advice. Supporting the provision of clear and timely information and advice to stakeholders on emerging project issues, risks and priorities, and supporting the consistent application of agreed project planning and delivery practices across the directorate Supporting and mentoring team members and contributing to a collaborative, high-performing project environment. Our ideal candidate will have: Demonstrated ability to provide sound leadership in the design and development of business case. Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine solutions. Expertise in managing and contributing to the delivery of complex, interconnected projects, ideally within technology-enabled environments. Experience in business analysis within technology projects (desirable) In addition, you will bring: Experience coordinating across specialist functions (particularly procurement and contract management), providing oversight while remaining hands-on where required. Strong stakeholder management capability, including consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders with varying expectations, viewpoints and interests. The ability to conceptualise projects end-to-end - identifying gaps, anticipating risks, and ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and governance frameworks to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes. Advanced project management capability, including preparation of scope and business cases, stakeholder engagement strategies, evaluation methodologies and governance participation. Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts, tailor messaging to diverse audiences and write fluently in plain English. A demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and timeframes with a composed and practical approach, supporting quality delivery within agreed constraints. If you are a strategic and outcomes-focused project professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys influencing across a diverse stakeholder landscape, we encourage you to apply. Note: A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment is required before commencing in this role. It is not required at the application stage. The cost of the WWCC clearance is the responsibility of the successful applicant. We invite you to download the role description for additional information on the position.
