Working to the protect the state’s environment and heritage. * Internal expression of interest * Temporary (Up to 31 December 2026) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity * Office location includes Parramatta, Albury, Riverina, or another NSW regional location by negotiation. * Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $129,464 to $142,665 + super Our Water Group team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Project Officer Policy on a temporary basis The Senior Project Officer – Policy plays a key role in developing and delivering water policy initiatives within the Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM) Program, managing projects from analysis through to implementation. The role involves researching and analysing complex policy issues, preparing high‑quality Cabinet and Ministerial briefings, and working closely with internal teams, other government agencies, industry, landholders and community stakeholders. The team operates in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment that values evidence‑based advice, constructive stakeholder engagement and shared accountability, with a strong focus on supporting water reform outcomes across NSW. About the role * Support policy development and analysis to support program delivery * Provide policy advice on water management, legislation and initiatives to support decision-making and implementation * Support interagency and committee engagement on policy matters * Research, analyse and interpret data to develop evidence-based policy options * Prepare high-level written outputs including Cabinet submissions, Ministerial briefs, correspondence and speeches * Monitor and evaluate policy implementation, reporting on outcomes and performance against reform objectives * Coordinate legal input to ensure aligned and effective policy development * Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities as required * Analyse legislation to inform policy positions What we are looking for We’re keen to hear from candidates who bring: * Have experience in developing and delivering complex public policy, ideally in water, environmental or natural resource management, or intergovernmental contexts. * Experience in analysing legislation and intergovernmental agreements, synthesise evidence, and provide clear, defensible advice to senior executives and Ministers. * Well-developed research, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple policy and project priorities simultaneously. * Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce concise, clear and high‑quality briefs and papers for senior executive and Ministerial audiences. * Effective stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders across jurisdictions and communicate complex and sensitive issues clearly. * Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships across government and with external partners. * Sound judgment, integrity and resilience under pressure. * A collaborative approach to working in a team-oriented environment while navigating change and competing priorities in a fast‑paced policy environment.
