Responsibilities

THE ROLE

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Projects Solicitor to join our well-established Legal Team to support the SSE Energy Businesses (Renewables, Thermal and Customers) across the UK and Ireland. Reporting to Head of Legal - Projects, you will form part of our team of Projects lawyers working on construction, engineering and commercial contracts. In this role there is scope to work across a number of technology types including wind (offshore and onshore), hydro, solar, battery, hydrogen and traditional thermal assets.

You’ll have a passion to work as part of a high performing team, sharing knowledge, best practice and supporting colleagues. You’ll be confident and resilient in the approach to your work, legal skills and knowledge, and able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Qualification as a solicitor in Scotland and/or England and Wales with a minimum of 5 years PQE, with knowledge of the legal and commercial issues that are pertinent to the construction or utilities sector.
  • Broad experience of commercial and construction matters (preferably in the utilities and/or energy sector) including drafting and negotiating engineering and construction contracts and associated commercial agreements.
  • Comfortable working independently and within project teams and leading matters of high value and high risk.
  • A proactive and pragmatic approach to giving legal advice and support in a clear and concise manner and within timescales. Demonstrates authority, credibility and maturity in their approach to their work.
  • Has a high degree of confidence in their approach to their work, legal skills and knowledge with a demonstrable resilient attitude to challenging situations. Comfortable in taking the lead in challenging situations and effectively resolving conflict
