Overview
It is the Senior Specialist’s responsibility to ensure that relevant company employees strictly adhere to the company policies and best practice methods developed over the years which are designed to make our operations safer. This position leads the company’s propane safety efforts by conducting propane plant and customer records inspections, providing on-the-job training to propane operation’s employees, manages the certified employee training program (CETP) for all company propane operations. This position is also responsible for fleet safety training in accordance with DOT regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities
- Conduct annual propane safety meetings and prepares transportation safety materials for monthly propane safety meetings and transportation safety bulletins
- Assist new driver hires with completing required DOT/company paperwork
- Provide on-the-job training to bulk and propane operations employees
- Conduct propane and bulk plant safety inspections to include inspection of completed safety and service forms in customer files. Works with marketing department on safety incentive programs
- Conduct propane bottle filling/dispenser training
- Oversee propane related incidents reported to home office to determine cause & origin and facts-of-loss
- Serve as a technical source of information for propane operations employees in the field
- Perform ‘behind the wheel’ coaching & evaluation drives with all new drivers and with tenured drivers, as needed, to teach & evaluate safe driving & handling of vehicles utilizing Smith System Defensive Driving Training skills
- Assure drivers are capable of performing required ‘safety-sensitive’ duties: pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections, loading/unloading cargo tank vehicles, all emergency procedures, compliance with DOT regulations & company policy
- Monitor Compliance, Safety, Accountability scorecards monthly
- Responsible for vehicle accident investigation: review, documentation, and training for each reported incident
- Responsible for motorist concerns: investigate, document, and follow up
- Spot check equipment for potential safety defects or DOT violations
- Monitor driver daily inspections to assure compliance to regulations
- Review all cargo tank & vehicle inspection reports
- Work with Manager of Truck Service to make certain correct specification of equipment is being used in purchasing equipment
- Present a positive image of MFA Oil Company to the community and be knowledgeable about all products and services offered by company

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least three years of experience in transportation or related field
- Knowledge of company operations and products
- This position requires an extensive level of field experience with propane operations
- The position requires an individual to understand and have the abilities to demonstrate to others how to properly perform their respective jobs safely and in the best interest of our customers and the company
- Ability to travel overnight frequently to trainings, to train other personnel, and attend educational sessions
- Ability and willingness to work with hazardous materials
- Ability and willingness to obtain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker, HAZMAT, and air brake endorsements within the first 90 days of employment, and maintain all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements per the vehicle requirements
- Ability to pass in person training and MFA Oil Company Record of Road test requiring operation of both manual and automatic transmission vehicles within 90 days of employment
- Ability to safely operate automatic and manual transmission vehicles in a variety of weather and road conditions
- Ability and willingness to become propane (CETP) certified as determined by the state(s) served
- Must be able to continually evaluate changes in regulations and safety requirements relating to DOT regulations, HM regulations, and possibly other regulatory agencies
- Ability to move equipment and position self to move and retrieve products and supplies from shelves, under counters or stacks of inventory weighing up to 100 pounds
- Vision, hearing, speech and ability to detect odors
- Development of good relations with state & national propane gas associations
- Excellent verbal skills, to effectively present to individuals, as well as small and large groups
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
- Strong leadership with positive coaching and development skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines
- Ability to follow all safety requirements and supervisor instructions
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to exchange accurate information with MFA Oil Company customers in English
- Legal authorization to work in the United States of America
- 21 years of age or older
- Ability to meet company requirements including successful pre-employment drug screening, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), criminal background check, and MFA Oil Company road test
