GROUNDS MANAGER

Position Overview:The Grounds Manager will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and improvement of the grounds and outdoor facilities at Cambrian College. This includes overseeing landscaping, snow removal operations, grounds maintenance, irrigation systems, and seasonal projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grounds management, landscaping, snow removal and team leadership, with a commitment to providing excellent outdoor spaces.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, environmental science, or related field preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in grounds management, landscaping, or facilities maintenance, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping practices, grounds maintenance techniques, and irrigation systems.
  • Experience managing a team, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping and groundskeeping equipment.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to grounds maintenance.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift heavy objects when necessary.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of the grounds team, including landscapers and maintenance personnel.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee landscaping and grounds maintenance activities such as mowing, trimming, planting, and seasonal clean-ups.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of all outdoor areas, including lawns, gardens, parking lots, and pathways.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems, water features, and outdoor equipment.
  • Develop and manage schedules for seasonal landscaping projects and general maintenance.
  • Monitor and manage groundskeeping budgets, ordering supplies, and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and sustainability practices.
  • Lead the implementation of landscape design improvements and seasonal plantings to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the grounds.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the grounds to identify and address potential hazards or areas in need of attention.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized services, including tree trimming, pest control, and snow removal.
  • Maintain accurate records of grounds activities, including maintenance schedules and inventory management.
