Senior Publisher – Biochemistry & Biotechnology Journals Would you like to support biochemists and biotechnologists in publishing pioneering research that addresses some of the most critical challenges facing humanity today? About the Team You will join our global Biochemistry journals team, with Publishers based in the UK, the Netherlands, and China. Together, we manage a broad and prestigious portfolio of journals that provide a trusted platform for researchers to share groundbreaking discoveries, advance science, and contribute to solutions for a better world. The team is responsible for developing and managing established titles, launching new journals, and building and maintaining society partnerships to ensure sustainable growth and high levels of customer satisfaction. We work closely with authors, editors, researchers, and societies across the Life Sciences ecosystem. About the Role As Senior Publisher, you will lead the strategic development and performance of an international portfolio of proprietary, affiliated, and society journals across growth areas in biochemistry and biotechnology. You will drive innovation and growth through portfolio strategy, new initiatives, and close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. A key aspect of the role is acting as a champion for China, implementing China-focused strategies aligned with the overall STM Journals strategy and objectives. You will build and maintain strong partnerships with individuals and institutions, drawing on your publishing experience in China and internationally. This includes developing a robust professional network and taking a proactive role in institutional and society outreach activities within Life Sciences. You will work with a high degree of autonomy and serve as a role model and mentor for Publishers and Associate Publishers, demonstrating leadership, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of ownership. Responsibilities Develop and execute portfolio strategies to drive sustainable growth, including identifying opportunities for new journal launches Collaborate closely with Publishers across Life Sciences, Health and Medical Sciences, and Agriculture, Environmental, Materials, and Engineering portfolios Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder networks to support portfolio development and performance Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative journal solutions Work closely with editors, authors, editorial boards, and the wider research community to ensure a steady flow of high-quality submissions Oversee quality control and day-to-day editorial, production, and publishing operations, driving continuous improvement Deliver against portfolio objectives, including content growth, market share, citation performance, impact metrics, editorial speed, and author and editor satisfaction Requirements 5+ years’ experience in journal publishing or a closely related role Strong educational background (degree or higher) and a genuine interest in academic publishing; a Life Sciences background is advantageous but not essential Excellent English proficiency, written and spoken, with experience working across international and cross-cultural environments Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage internal teams and external partners Self-starter with a flexible, adaptable approach to changing priorities Proven ability to collaborate effectively across functions and teams Strong relationship-building skills and market awareness, with the ability to identify and evaluate new business opportunities Work in a way that works for you We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organization.
