Description

To support our continued growth, we are looking to employ a Senior Consultant – Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our consulting team.
This is a varied, challenging, and exciting role within the established Lumensol Commercial Services Team. The nature and requirements of the role are mixed and driven by a combination of the current projects we are engaged to complete and the clients we are working with.
The primary function of this role is to provide commercial knowledge and support; to help implement better commercial controls and to support with full operational and commercial transformation projects. The role will involve working across multiple work types and projects, including planned refurbishment, Decarbonisation, Retrofit, Energy Saving Measures, M&E Replacements, High Rise Buildings and other complex planned work streams.
You will report into the Commercial Manager and will collaborate closely with other members of the commercial team, including Assistant QS’s, Quantity Surveyors, Commercial Manager and the Head of Commercial and well as collaborating with operational teams as part of larger or more complex projects.

Key Responsibilities / Outcomes

  • Delivering all fundamental aspects of being an employee of Lumensol, to include personal training and development, compliance with policies and procedures, upholding our values and contributing to our fantastic team culture
  • Assist in managing the process to review and assess works submitted through the application for payment process, ensuring the commercial mechanism is appropriately applied and that the required notices are issued in accordance with the contract conditions
  • Mentoring, support and training of Quantity Surveyor and Assistant Quantity Surveyor roles
  • Provide commercial support and advice to clients, clearly explaining and advising on options available
  • Give commercial view on design changes and change management, leading discussions with key stakeholders
  • Lead in the preparation of and assist in presenting of monthly reports on cost/progress/ performance
  • Lead in the resolution of disputes/queries/claims between clients, designers, contractors, and suppliers
  • Monitor and control costs and budgets of projects, ensuring that they are completed within the agreed time and quality standards
  • Support in the review, design, implementation and adherence to robust commercial processes, templates, timetables, and commercial control mechanisms to ensure commercial assurances
  • Support in the negotiation and agreement of contracts, prices, and variations
  • Supporting in the preparation and review of tender documents, bills of quantities, and commercial mechanisms for various work streams and projects
  • Identify key risks and opportunities provide guidance on how to develop or mitigate.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant Qualifications – Degree/HNC in Commercial Management / Quantity Surveying
  • 5+ years of experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or similar role in the housing sector
  • Strong working knowledge and experience of design management
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with high level of accuracy and keen eye for detail
  • Background in social housing maintenance contracts is essential
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams etc.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively, utilising own initiative without high level of supervision
  • Experience of versatility in rapidly changing environment, priorities and needs of our clients
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a drive to work hard and learn as part of an experienced team
  • Positive, polite, organised, and professional in everything that they do
  • Proven ability to work methodically, follow procedures and manage information
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively - in writing, face to face and by phone.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Reactive/ Planned/ Decarbonisation/ Retrofit/ cost models
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or Power BI, specifically Power Query, M Query and Dax
  • Experience with negotiation and influencing
  • Knowledge of TAC/ TPC, NEC & JCT Contracts.
