Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Seabird Island is committed to building a strong, inclusive workforce that supports the health, growth, and well-being of our community. We are dedicated to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment that respects and values Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and ways of being. We are seeking a Senior Recruiter to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the delivery of strategic staffing services across Seabird Island programs and departments.
Under the direction of the HR Manager, the Senior Recruiter provides culturally informed recruitment and staffing support to internal departments and leadership. This role involves leading recruitment processes, developing new positions, managing employment contracts, and supporting placements and staffing continuity across the organization. The Senior Recruiter will also engage in community outreach and represent Seabird Island at hiring events, building strong relationships to support talent acquisition and Band Member employment goals.
We are seeking a candidate who not only brings the required skills and experience but also truly embodies our values. The ideal person is welcoming, kind, and approachable — someone who naturally builds trust and connection. They are outgoing and community-minded, consistently seeking opportunities to engage with the community and understand that this role is about more than tasks — it’s about walking alongside our Band Members in meaningful ways to help them reach their career goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Human Resources Certificate or Register Professional Recruiter (RPR) certificate required. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Minimum 3 years of recruitment experience, ideally in a First Nations or Indigenous organization.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and recruitment best practices, especially those relevant to hiring.
  • Skilled in interviewing at all levels and assessing candidate fit.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and people-focused, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable using online recruitment tools (e.g., LinkedIn), sourcing talent, and attending job fairs or community events.
  • Familiar with HR systems and applicant tracking software; BambooHR experience is an asset.
