OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented professional to support the efficient day-to-day operations of our laboratory. This role involves performing a variety of complex technical tasks that require formal training, specialized knowledge, and prior experience. The successful candidate will coordinate and conduct work following established methods and procedures, while applying a solid understanding of related theory and practices. The position requires a high level of independence, technical expertise, and proficiency with specialized instrumentation and systems to ensure smooth and reliable research activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in a relevant discipline, with 1–2 years of related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
  • Experience engaging with First Nations communities, with the ability to build strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and evaluate scientific experiments and research activities
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Adapt or modify instruments and procedures to meet specific project requirements
  • Provide guidance and consultation to researchers and students on equipment use, data collection, and research standards
  • Conduct experiments using specialized techniques
  • Maintain quality control protocols, calibration, and testing to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Research and implement new techniques; develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment use, administration, and safety
  • Manage data collection and databases, including preliminary analysis, reporting, and preparation of manuscripts and presentations
  • Contribute to participant recruitment and assist in developing research protocols for interviews, questionnaires, and focus groups
  • Train and mentor research staff and students on procedures, safety, and equipment use
  • Schedule and review the work of junior staff, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety standards
  • Collaborate with team members across departments to achieve research objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and maintain a safe and efficient work environment
