Description
NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory is a collaboration between Nanofilm Technologies International Limited (“Nanofilm”, “NTI”), Nanyang Technological University (“NTU”) and supported by Singapore under RIE2025. The Laboratory’s objective is to propel Innovation and Technologies commercialisation through NTU’s innovation and NTI’s deep technology. NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory aligns with Singapore’s RIE2025 handbook – which emphasises the nation’s commitment to research and innovation, aiming to drive economic growth and address national challenges. The Nanyang Technological University NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Senior Research Fellow to play a leading role in the development of PVD/CVD-based multi-functional composite thin film coatings. This is a unique opportunity to join a high-impact research team focused on pioneering next-generation materials with strong industrial relevance across electronics, aerospace, automotive, and energy sectors. The successful candidate will take technical ownership of thin film deposition, materials characterization, and process innovation, contributing both strategic insight and hands-on leadership to research programs at the forefront of plasma processing and surface engineering. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design, optimization, and scale-up of PVD and CVD plasma-based processes, with an emphasis on high-performance composite coatings e.g. oxide and nitride. Drive the comprehensive characterization of thin films using advanced techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, Raman, AFM, nanoindentation), enabling deep understanding of structure-property relationships. Spearhead independent, hypothesis-driven experimental research, and interpret complex datasets to extract actionable insights for process refinement and material enhancement. Apply advanced data analysis methods, simulation tools, and scientific programming to support process modeling and predictive materials design. Translate experimental findings into scalable, commercially viable processes, working closely with internal teams and industrial partners to align with product development goals. Author and present detailed technical reports, white papers, and research documentation to support grant deliverables, IP generation, and strategic decision-making. Collaborate across disciplines, mentor junior researchers, and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous innovation. job Requirements: Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field. At least 5 years of combined specialized post-doctoral experience in industry or a recognized research institute. Extensive research experience in the characterization of thin film composite coatings, with a strong emphasis on oxide and nitride composite thin film coatings. Applicants must demonstrate effective collaboration skills in multidisciplinary settings. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Hiring Institution: NTU A research-intensive public university, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) has 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Engineering, Business, Science, Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, and Graduate colleges. It also has a medical school, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, established jointly with Imperial College London. NTU is also home to world-class autonomous institutes – the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) and Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N). Ranked amongst the world’s top universities by QS, NTU has also been named the world’s top young university for the past seven years. The University’s main campus is frequently listed among the Top 15 most beautiful university campuses in the world and has 57 Green Mark-certified (equivalent to LEED-certified) buildings, of which 95% are certified Green Mark Platinum. Apart from its main campus, NTU also has a campus in Novena, Singapore’s healthcare district. Under the NTU Smart Campus vision, the University harnesses the power of digital technology and tech-enabled solutions to support better learning and living experiences, the discovery of new knowledge, and the sustainability of resources.
