Description

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Daffodil Centre is a world-leading research centre on cancer control and policy, contributing to real-world improvements in cancer control. The Daffodil Centre combines the complementary strengths of the University of Sydney and the Cancer Council NSW, a partnership that has created an unparalleled centre of national and international research excellence in cancer control.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced researcher to join the Breast Cancer Clinical & Population Health stream as a Senior Research Fellow (Level C) or as Principal Research Fellow (Level D) , to contribute to health services research with a focus on prevention and early detection. You will have the opportunity to co-lead and lead existing public health and clinical research in breast cancer and to work autonomously to develop an independent research program in breast cancer prevention and detection.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a nationally recognised research centre at the forefront of cancer control. You’ll have the platform to lead and contribute to meaningful prevention-focused research, with the support of strong existing programs and partnerships. We’re seeking a driven researcher with expertise in prevention – ideally with experience in cancer – who is ready to make a real-world impact through evidence, innovation, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AS A SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW (LEVEL C) WILL BE TO:

  • Conceptualise, co-develop, and undertake new research in breast cancer primary or secondary prevention, focusing on practice-relevant knowledge gaps and emerging issues
  • Collaborate on existing projects including cohort studies and screening trials
  • Liaise with BreastScreen program services to co-design and implement research
  • Mentorship of other researchers and PhD students, including face-to-face support where required
  • Seek out research synergies within the Daffodil Centre streams and more broadly in the Faculty
  • Develop and lead grant applications relevant to breast cancer control

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AS A PRINCIPAL RESEARCH FELLOW (LEVEL D – IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE):

  • Provide national leadership in breast cancer prevention research by spearheading cross-institutional collaborations, shaping research priorities, and driving evidence translation into policy and practice in Australia
  • Lead the design and delivery of major research projects that align with national cancer control efforts, including securing competitive funding.
  • Strengthen the Centre’s partnerships with BreastScreen programs, and cancer control organisations and stakeholders to co-develop research with policy or practice-relevant outcomes
  • Actively contribute to strategic leadership within the University and Faculty by mentoring emerging leaders, influencing institutional research directions, and promoting a culture of excellence, inclusion, and impact
