Overview:
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.
Fred Hutch is recruiting a Senior Research Pathologist to lead/direct the pathology (anatomic and molecular) components of the Sloan Precision Oncology Institute. The position is for a full-time, on-site, research member specializing primarily in solid tumor Anatomic Pathology and relevant aspects of Molecular Diagnostics.
The primary role for this position entails establishing and maintaining a robust research pathology core infrastructure and delivering research pathology services for Fred Hutch with a particular focus on Precision Oncology. This involves assessing tissue specimens, creating tissue biobanks with deep clinical and molecular annotation, interpreting immunohistochemical and molecular pathology studies, and providing expertise, advise and input for research projects with relevance to precision oncology. The pathologist will also participate in organizing the rapid autopsy program as a shared resource within the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children’s NCI-supported Cancer Consortium.
The role requires effective collaboration with a diverse group of researchers across Fred Hutch, contributing to both basic discovery and translational studies. The position is primarily a support role and is fully funded through institutional resources, though candidates can expect to have independence to pursue their own specific research questions and participate in collaborative studies supported by research grants.
This position is full time on campus.
