JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is looking to recruit a Senior Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Akhil Vaidya on research involving molecular and cell biology of malaria parasites.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of PhD or Doctorate in Microbiology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research projects.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics and with standard computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Ability to maintain professional communication and interpersonal skills with all team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience with conducting microbial research
  • Experience with guiding graduate student research
Responsibilities
  • The work will consist of molecular and cell biology of malaria parasites The candidate will conduct:
  • recombinant plasmid constructions using parasite genes
  • genetic manipulations of malaria parasites
  • live cell imaging of transgenic parasites
  • biochemical assays for mitochondrial functions mass spectrometry for proteomic and lipidomic analysis
  • Generate data that will support current grant awards
  • Write manuscripts, progress reports and assist with applications for grant funding based on preliminary data.
  • Assist Dr. Vaidya in advising graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the group.
