Responsibilities

WHY YOUR ROLE MATTERS

This role is based in the UNSW Library Scholarly Communications and Repositories unit (SCR). SCR provides a range of services to assist academic staff and postgraduate researchers to manage research resources. This includes research data and dataset management, development and support services for managing and sharing information assets, and the management of scholarly outputs through an institutional repository. SCR participates in e-research projects and services supporting research data management needs of the University.
The Senior Research Systems Support Specialist maintains and develops digital library services and systems to support the management and delivery of scholarly information, data and services for the research, learning and teaching communities at UNSW. The role of position reports to the Technical Lead, Research and has no direct reports.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY

  • Work collaboratively and creatively with Library colleagues, University and external stakeholders, and vendors to contribute to the investigation, specification, design, implementation and maintenance of library research support services and systems that meet usability standards and, when required, interoperate or integrate with other systems and services
  • Work with applications and toolkits to implement and maintain a multi-purpose repository infrastructure that supports the ingestion, preservation and delivery of digital objects including research publications, datasets, multimedia artefacts and code. Ensure infrastructure supports workflows to preserve, extract, transform and repurpose metadata and digital objects as needed
  • Manage, prioritise, analyse, and resolve assigned tasks and issues to ensure Library research systems support UNSW’s scholarly communication activities in line with service definitions
  • Test and apply solutions and upgrades to systems
  • Produce and maintain documentation on Library research services and systems including procedures for their administration.
