About the Role

THERE IS FUNDING TO RECRUIT A SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN ON FA5 1.0FTE ON START-UP FUNDING FOR 24 MONTHS TO PREFERABLE START DATE 03/11/2025

Applications are invited for a Senior Research Technician position in the Mausz Lab. In this role, you will assist with on-going projects targeting the response of marine microbes (cyanobacteria, eukaryotic phytoplankton such as diatoms and prymnesiophytes) to nutrient limitation and environmental changes. Lab duties are wide ranging from microbe culture maintenance, standard microbial assays, (photo)physiology measurements, lipid analysis via LC-MS to potentially radioisotope assays, genetic modification and bioinformatic data analyses.
The Senior Research Technician will contribute to the smooth running of the laboratory by overseeing equipment maintenance and support with required repair, providing training of new lab members including project students, ordering consumables, and ensuring both chemical disposal and health and safety standards are maintained.
As our laboratory is a young and developing group, the role is considered dynamic and would suit a candidate who is excited to play both a leading and supporting role in a variety of projects. We are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive environment, so encourage you to apply even if your past experience does not match exactly. Further, some training on desirable skills can be provided and there is some scope to tailor the position towards candidate strengths.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and engaged applicant with a laboratory-based research master’s degree or equivalent laboratory experience in a relevant subject (e.g. marine biology, microbiology, life sciences, biochemistry or analytical chemistry). You will be able to work well independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive attitude towards developing yourself and projects and contributing to research in the laboratory. The ideal applicant should be well organised, collaborative and pay close attention to detail.
Experience with liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry would be highly desirable but not essential. The willingness to learn these skills and basic chemical understanding as well as the ability for multitasking and simultaneously work on multiple projects is important.
