Description

Senior Researcher/Team Leader with focus on public health and epidemiological research
A full-time position as Senior Researcher/Team Leader is available at Clinical epidemiology, Clinical and Translational Research, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC), from October 1, 2025. The position is open for Master of Science candidates holding a PhD and with more than five years of postdoctoral experience.
About the research group
Cardio-Metabolic epidemiology performs research in cardiometabolic disease and health, a group of common and interconnected conditions such as overweight, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, heart failure, and steatotic liver disease. We aim to investigate effective pharmacological and lifestyle interventions to prevent the development and progression of cardiometabolic diseases and improve health. Furthermore, we also strive to advance the understanding of the underlying mechanisms that contribute to disease development. Our epidemiological studies range in scale from several hundred participants to the entire Danish population, drawing on extensive data sets such as Danish nationwide registries and other large-scale “big data” resources.
The candidate
We are seeking a highly motivated and well-qualified candidate with an MSc and a PhD in public health and epidemiology. The ideal applicant will have documented experience in international research covering both health and disease epidemiology.
Extensive knowledge and proven expertise in all aspects of the register-based research process are essential. This includes data collection, selection of appropriate study designs, extraction and linkage of data from relevant registers, and advanced statistical analysis. The applicant must also have substantial experience in obtaining data and securing approvals for health science research from organisations such as the Danish Health Data Authority, the Danish Clinical Quality Program (RKKP), Statistics Denmark, and the various data protection agencies within the Capital Region of Denmark.
The position also involves administrative responsibilities, such as preparing and submitting data applications to relevant authorities, drafting data notifications, grant applications, organising scientific meetings, and providing daily supervision for the group’s researchers. The successful candidate must have a strong track record in register-based research, including at least 70 international peer-reviewed publications, as well as experience supervising postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. Demonstrated leadership experience will be considered an asset. Strong collaboration skills, a proactive approach, positive mindset, and an ability to respond quickly and constructively in teams are essential for success in this role.
Terms
The Senior Researcher/Team leader will be offered a full-time position. Employment will be in accordance with the relevant collective agreement within the Capital Region of Denmark.
