Location: Burlington, VT Situated in the heart of Burlington’s downtown district, our office sits high on the fourth floor of the Wells-Richardson historic building overlooking the beautiful Lake Champlain waterfront and Adirondack Mountains. Primary responsibilities include: Field observation and inspection of infrastructure projects under the direct supervision of a Project Manager/ Contract Administrator/ Senior Resident Engineer Record site observations in daily reports and report issues and discrepancies to supervisory personnel Read and understand contract plans, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and special provisions Conduct simple field testing of construction materials and report on test results Produce simple drawings, tracings, maps, and technical computations to describe and report on observed construction operations Use engineering tools such as transit level, rotary laser, GPS or others to measure and verify installed construction quantities Use good judgment and supervisory guidance for limited field changes according to prescribed policies and procedures and with input from direct supervisors Be actively involved with the client and contractor in resolution of any discrepancies or construction issues Document observed field conditions Obtain a general understanding of the construction project schedule and the logical sequence of construction activities Process contractor progress payments for review and approval by supervisory personnel Coordinate inspection of construction materials and have a general understanding of test methods and interpretation of results Develop an understanding of project budget, scope of services, project development, and provide updates and recommendations to your supervisor in maintaining schedule and budget Monitor and review spent hours and dollars versus percent complete in relation to project timelines and budget and provide recommendations to the Project Manager to stay on track Understand the client's organization and develop professional relationships with client peers Develop proficiency in software programs and other tools to support construction inspection and review processes Demonstrate strong technical report writing and develop knowledge of proposal development Provide suggestions to resolve project timeline issues and budget issues Provide peer mentoring for new construction technician staff Requirements Qualifications: BS or MS in Civil Engineering or related field, or meets experience requirements 10-15 years of construction inspection or related experience Certification or ability to become certified in OSHA 10, Construction and Confined Space for Construction or HAZWOPER. Certification or ability to become certified in one or more of the programs offered by LPA, NICET, ACI, NETTCP or approved alternate Salary is contingent on experience
