Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF JOB:

To join a team and take a lead responsibility in key areas as designated by the Registered Manager and practice a mentoring role in relation to support staff and those new to the team. To assist the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in providing a comprehensive range of residential childcare services within a therapeutic setting. The aim being to ensure the highest standards of physical, social and emotional care is offered for the individual development of the children/young people, exceeding the guidelines and standards expected by Ofsted.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To maintain the development of positive childcare practice in keeping with the aims
    and objectives of the company. You will work with the team to promote and support the children/young people in our care in leading a life of positive development by providing a safe and nurturing environment.
    · To contribute as that of professional parent and to take a child centred approach to enable each child/young person to grow and develop healthily, promoting and maximising their educational opportunities and/or other achievements. A vital part of your role will be providing the children/young people with emotional and social support, helping them to develop meaningful relationships with other children and adults as well as encouraging them to become involved with local communities.
    · Requires good organisational and time management skills, with an ability to take responsibility for own workload and work independently as well as part of team. You will write reports on the children/young people’s progress, complete risk assessments and attend meetings which review progress and develop placement plans.
    · To provide a positive role model and maintain high professional standards at all times, with reference to the companies equality and diversity policies and the recognition of each person’s unique racial, cultural, religious and sexuality based needs. Carry out duties in line with the companies policies with reference at all times to the positive implementation of equality and diversity strategies for young people and the staff team as a whole.
    · Assist the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in the planning and organisation of the work undertaken by the staff at the residential establishment. Ensure records and reports are kept regarding children/young people and that these reports are relevant, accurate and up to date.
    · Participate in the regular formal supervision sessions of support staff in line with company policy and procedure and through this process help to identify training needs for the staff team and individuals. Assist in the organisation of training events, programmes, induction etc. and contribute to these as required.
    · In accordance with company expectations, assist in the day to day administration of the home e.g. ordering resources, managing petty cash, non-staffing budgets and other financial systems. This must be done within cash limits for the establishment set at the beginning of each financial year.
    · Assist in the planning and maintenance of the work rota and the arranging of cover. Ensuring that company procedures and policies are followed concerning staff holiday, hours worked, sickness absence, overtime, health and safety etc
    · To be aware of fire prevention regulations and be practised in fire drills. Ensure that fire regulations, fire drills and other emergency procedures are known and understood by children and young people and the staff as a whole. Ensure that all health and safety requirements are complied with.
    · Develop and sustain effective working relationships with the local community, colleagues and other agencies to promote collaborative working and partnerships.
    · Accompany the children/young people when or where necessary to support and enable participation in recreation and leisure activities. Supervise family contacts if appropriate.
    · Provide and maintain high levels of cleanliness and ensure that all communal areas of the home are clean and tidy. Carry out household duties, shopping, cleaning, cooking and generally ensuring that the household and garden area are maintained in a safe manner. (This position involves some manual handling duties e.g. loading and unloading washing machine).
    · To comply with company rules, policies and practices of the home and to respond to emergencies that may arise within the home. Work in accordance with the Children’s homes Regulations & Quality Standards and co-operate with any inspection process. Attend and participate in supervision and staff meetings as required in the Quality Standards.
    · Reporting missing persons to the Police, responsible local authority and those with parental responsibility in line with missing children and young people’s protocol.
    · To accept responsibility for monies as may be required in carrying out necessary duties
    · To undertake administrative duties and maintain a regular system of recording as required e.g. log books, daily information sheets, accident book, incident book, incident sheets etc.
    · To ensure that young people receive any medical attention that they may require, and ensure that regulations regarding the maintenance of drugs on the premises are complied with at all times
    · To deal with telephone enquiries obtaining as much information as possible before passing the matter to senior on call if necessary.
    · To be available on an on-call basis to cover staff at short falls and/or operational emergencies.
    · You will need to be flexible in your approach to work, as on occasions you may be called upon to cover a shift due to a colleagues absence. Such flexibility and team work allows for consistent care from recognised carers.
    · You will need to be flexible to work in any of our homes in the region on either a temporary or permanent basis as identified by your manager.
    · To physically intervene if a resident’s behaviour is dangerous to others or themselves, in accordance with procedural guidance of the establishment and relevant legislation.
    · Any other duties as may be required and directed by senior staff.
    · To undertake training as required.

policies and attend relevant statutory training as required.
