JOB SUMMARY

Evaluates and makes decisions on complex residential and consumer loan applications, applying expert knowledge of portfolio and investor guidelines, internal policies, and regulatory requirements. Exercises advanced credit judgment to balance risk management with sound lending decisions while providing support to internal team members throughout the loan process.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Federal Housing Authority Direct Endorsement (FHA/DE) and/or Veterans Affairs Staff Appraisal/Leder Appraisal Processing Program (VA SAR/LAPP) certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, including knowledge of agency and investor guidelines.
  • Excellent underwriting expertise including strong knowledge of residential and consumer loan products, sound risk assessment, and the ability to provide guidance and support to underwriting and lending staff.
  • Excellent knowledge of banking and lending regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of credit, income, assets, and collateral analysis principles.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to explain underwriting decisions to internal team members.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in mortgage loan origination systems (LOS), automated underwriting systems (AUS), and office software including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple files under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change and work with urgency and accountability in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
