Description

ABOUT THIS POSITION

In our very experienced and also fun to work Radar Technology department, we have a vacancy for an experienced RF Systems Engineer. Do you enjoy achieving results in a complex, often international environment with different stakeholders and highly motivated researchers surrounding you? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Responsibilities

WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE?

You will work in the Compact Radar Systems expertise group, where technology and concepts are developed for (radar) systems for both Defense and non-Defense applications. This includes subsystems such as sensor integration, RF front ends, algorithms and signal processing, as well as complete radar and RF sensor systems.
These technologies are applied in various areas, such as drone radars, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), earth observation, precision measuring equipment and compact radars. The department works closely with (national and international) industrial parties, the government, the Dutch armed forces, universities and other research institutions.
Technology is changing extremely fast, resulting in new threats to the safety of our society but also in chances to realize what was not possible before. An example is the possibility to create very compact radar systems, light enough to be mounted under a small drone, to scan a terrain before you enter it.
As a RF System Engineer you will translate theoretical concepts into practical systems to prove the concept and show the added value to the end user. You will be designing RF and microwave circuits, modules and systems for radar applications, but more in general for sensor systems which can include tele-communication and other techniques.
You will work at the Compact Radar Systems department within the Defense, Safety and Security unit of TNO. At the Compact Radar Systems department, we passionately work on technological breakthroughs for state-of-the-art RF sensor systems. More information on the department can be found here: Radar technology | TNO

You are an analytical and structured team player that communicates easily with colleagues from different areas of expertise. You are willing to take additional responsibilities such as overseeing a lab, purchasing measurement tools and components. Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • The ability to interpret system requirements and convert them into electronic circuits using the latest technology. This includes component selection, circuit design, RF board layout, management of the production process and testing and debugging of the system.
  • Hands on experience with RF systems and are familiar with: S-parameters, noise figures, (de)modulation, VCOs, PLLs, amplifiers, filters etc.
  • The drive and ability to think outside of the electronics domain is very important since you will typically work together with both mechanical engineers and embedded software/FPGA engineers.
  • Experience in working with EMC/EMI-, thermal-, vibration- and MTBF-aspects is a big plus.
  • Experience in working with PCB design tools like Altium Designer and are acquainted with simulation software like MatLab and PSPICE or comparable tools, both at system and circuit level.
  • Knowledge of Linux, Python or C to model systems or process measurement data, as well as a good understanding of version management using GIT-lab is preferred
