Role description: The Senior Road Inspector will provide full-time, on-site inspection and quality assurance for a roadworks project located in the York Region. The role includes oversight of roadworks, stormwater and underground utilities, traffic staging, active transportation elements, and associated bridge and structural works. The Senior Road Inspector ensures that construction activities adhere to contract documents, municipal and provincial standards, approved drawings, specifications, and safety/environmental requirements. This position requires strong technical knowledge, meticulous documentation, and proactive communication with contractors, consultants, and client. This role sits within our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA). We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods. Role accountabilities: In this role, you will inspect the daily construction activities on site, including grading, granular and asphalt paving, curb and gutter installation, sidewalks, and boulevard works. You will also be responsible for monitoring the installation of critical infrastructure such as storm and sanitary sewers, watermains, culverts, and utility relocations to ensure they are completed to specification. You will oversee structural elements of the project, which includes culvert extensions, retaining walls, and bridge works. Your responsibilities will include verifying construction materials, conducting and reviewing testing, confirming workmanship quality, and ensuring compliance with contract drawings and specifications. Additionally, you will maintain comprehensive daily records, including reports, photographs, measurements, and quantity tracking to support payment processes. In this role, you will be expected to document deficiencies, non-conformance issues, and any changes occurring on site. You will coordinate closely with the contractor, Contract Administrator, York Region staff, and utility representatives to facilitate project progress. Furthermore, you will review traffic control setups and work staging for safety and compliance, and diligently monitor adherence to health, safety, and environmental requirements throughout the construction process. Qualifications & Experience: Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. 7-10 years of experience in municipal road construction inspection, including road widening or large corridor improvements. Experience with bridge/structural work (culverts, bridges, structural rehabilitation). Strong understanding of OPSS, OPSD, TAC, York Region Standards, and provincial construction practices. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, contract documents, and specifications. Excellent communication, site documentation, and conflict-resolution skills. Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle. Certifications such as MTO RAQ, CISEC, ESA Level I/II, WHMIS, Working at Heights, or equivalent are considered assets.
