POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Roadway Lighting & Electrical Engineer to join our Traffic Design team. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, with proven expertise in roadway and sign illumination systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio of delivering complex infrastructure projects and demonstrate strategic thinking in the integration of lighting and electrical systems within transportation environments. Experience in traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design is strongly preferred. This position will play a critical role in shaping innovative, reliable, and sustainable electrical solutions across a variety of civil infrastructure projects, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
As a Senior Engineer, you will be leading and mentoring engineers/designers and collaborating with our other design centers to provide roadway lighting and electrical engineering expertise and designs for design/build and other alternative delivery projects across North America.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • U.S. Professional Engineer license required (PE)
  • 12+ yrs experience in electrical design, preferably in transportation or civil infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, AGI32, and other relevant design software.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, AASHTO lighting standards, and traffic signal design principles.
  • Experience with fiber optic communication systems and traffic management technologies is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with state DOTs or public infrastructure agencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. #LI-MD1

Base Compensation: $164,000/yr - $172,000/yr

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical systems including highway/street lighting, power distribution, and traffic signal systems for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and construction documents using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, conduit fill calculations, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct lighting contour analysis and ensure compliance with AASHTO and NEC standards.
  • Review contractor submittals and manufacturer specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with utility providers and internal teams during all phases of design and construction.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams and support project delivery from concept through construction.
  • Lead a team of engineers/designers, as a project discipline lead, to perform the above lighting-electrical tasks.
